Matrox RT2000 or Pinnacle DV 500

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am thinking of buying a DV capture card and have narrowed down to Matrox RT2000 and Pinnacle DV500. Which of these 2 cards is worthwhile to invest? Would appreciate someone can share his/her experience with these cards.

Thanks.

I Have both card. It's nearly same features. I preffered you use DV 500 beacuse the software more stable & can run under windows 2000. Bye

Hi Daniel, I am going to get capture card too. Is there any reason you narrowed down to there two cards. They are all expensive to me. Have you think about Dazzle's DVC II? Any advice to me if I am think about that one since it is only $249. Thanks!

Here is a link to a forum about the Dazzle 2. I would read about ALL THE PROBLEMS you will encounter with this new product. And any good things as well. people are screaming about not having windows 2000 drivers so if you have Windows 2000 I would go elesewhere.

I have had great success with the Matrox RT2000 I have edited professionally aprox. 19 years I am happy with the Matrox dispite it's few quirks I have been able to implement one into an edit suite in our company with out anyone knowing they weren't using an AVID or equivalant! I have NO experience with the DV500 but I am charging aprox $125-$150 per hour using a RT2000 as my edit and capture source mind you I have a lot of decks and support equiptment but I have been able to make an edit system that cost approx $4000 I have been able to bill approx $160,000 this year HMMMMMmmmm shoud I buy that AVID for $40,000...Good LUCK I also like the third party commitment to MATROX RT2000 I have found a lot utilities and custom Realtime effects...some of which I have been able to create and modify in Photoshop...Later & Peace GERG

I used the RT2500 and now i m using the Matrox RT X100. Matrox is more better than Pinnacle. Because it works better with Premiere in Real time and also use Premiere transitions, speed controls, titles, transparency in real time. But Pinnacle uses their software as plugins for these and most of them are not realtime( need rendering).
