Both my DVDand VCD players don't recognize the mpeg-1 files that I burned on CD.greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
I captured some audio/video clips using Pinnacle System's Studio DC10 Plus. Then I converted those avi files into mpeg-1 files using free download called TsunamiMPEG. Finally I burned those mpeg-1 files on CD using Adaptec's Easy CD Creator. When I click on those mpeg files on CD, my default media player 'RealPlayer' does play both audio and video very nicely. But when I put the CD in my Samsung DVD player or another VCD player that I have, they don't seem to recognize the CD. Am I supposed to burn additional data on the CD in addition to the mpeg files in order for the DVD or VCD players to recognize those files?

you did half of the work! not really, what most people on the page fail to say that you have to convert the mpeg into a .dat (what most dvd's are made of!). To do this you have special software in your burner, I use nero, and i've used nti cd- maker they both work fine. I don't know if adaptec has any, you might want to check their website, all you have to do is make sure your mpegs are compatible with your region NTSC for the U.S. PAL for europe, then just load the mpegs into the vcd software program like you would burn any regular prog, then burn it, it does all the work for you.

WinOnCD 3.7 as well as Nero 5 do the job very nicely. Friendly greetings, Eppo R. Kooi.

Actually you are supposed to convert these files into videocd format not Mpeg1 format. In your TsunamiMPEG ,select the file and hit the setting then select SYSTEM and choose videocd NOT mpeg1. TsunamiMPEG has a default setting of mpeg1 and you have to change it OR after selecting the file press "load" and select VideoCD [your format NTSC or Pal].mcf and encode. This will make the file perfect for VCD play as well as DVD play.Adaptec's Easy CD Creator deluxe will take care of the rest.[You don't have to make any .dat file] Also some DVD players do not recognise CD-R discs. For example my Panasonic A300 doesnot recognise any CD-R. So I use Verbatim CD-RW to make videoCDs and play them. There is a list of these players some where on the web. If you need it let me know. Hope this helps
