hey, i've been noticing people using the word "slut" a lot lately on the forum, so i was just wondering how people define this word, and whether or not they think it's okay to use it, especially because of the male/female double standard on promiscuity. do you guys think that slut is an unfeminist/unhealthy word? that it defines a woman's sexuality by a man's standards?

If I really think about it though, it's a double standard. Guys that sleep around are cool (basically) and women are sluts. Nice.

I say "slut" sometimes, though.

I also believe there is a double standard.....but the thing is here at least where I am I hear more women call each other slut than guys doing it. I don't know why that is though?

Unfortunately, there is a large double standard... Slut, bitch, skank, ho, ect... refers to a sexually promisculous (sp?) women while I can't think of two many male specific terms for a male slut. Even in that last sentence I had to say "male" then slut to refer to a guy who is a slut. On the other hand, slut is such a cool word... it just simply rolls off your tongue...

Promiscuity can be bad if you're totally not taking the right precautions. Sleeping with people you don't/hardly know, no protection, whatever, is bad because then you're exposing yourself to all sorts of fun diseases and STDs, and then maybe spreading it to other people.
