Paging Z

Hi Z,

I have narrowed my choices of scanners down to 3 or 4 and am wondering if you use any of the film scanners with digital ICE? If so,do you see a quantum leap in output quality and time savings? If ICE isn't the direction I take I am leaning towards the(flatbed)Linoscan series, any 1st hand experience with them?

Thanks

Howdy Cap:

Just got back from Texas last night.

Do I have a Film Scanner. Yeah, I have a Nikon which is limited to 35 mm. I also have a computer controlled scanner [about $100,000], which is essentially a very expensive flatbed. It uses an Intel chip which, at present, isn't very good for digital analysis.

It is hard to answer your question, since I have no idea what you are doing. That is why I left you a link to a forum where they discuss this stuff.

There is no one answer. You need to find someone who is doing something similar to you and talk with them. For me, I found that a top of the line HP, flatbed was better than the more expensive stuff. For the analysis that I do, the hardware and software are more important. But remember, I am not trying to produce hardcopy from this stuff. Therefore, the fact that my files are so big [150 megs] would have no effect on a final copy.

Best Wishes,,,,

Z

Thanks Z,

This particular job is now large enough to justify both scanners, two new toys instead of one[G],I did learn and continue to learn a boatload of solid info from your link, thanks again.
