According to the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore web site, the compensation paid to Edgar Poe varies dependent upon the source. It ranges from $9.00 to as much as $30.00. However, Poe family tradition holds that he received $15.00 for the poem "The Raven" It is sometimes amusing to imagine what the original manuscript would go for today. Would you like to speculate?
