Why did Edgar Allen Poe write the poem For Annie?did he have a relationship with her?what does the poem mean?

Well, i dont know too much but i do know that Annie, isnt her real name, she was a married woman with whom poe had an affair with. He wrote the poem about the anguish of not being able to have her. Thats all i really know. hope it helped a little.
