Makems debating being a top three side

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

They are claiming that the only difference between them and the top three is lack of cover for Quinn. So, one of them suggests buying Montella of Roma for about £10 million. LOLOLOLOLOL. Hvae they honestly looked at the way they play football? You couldn't make it up. They should buy Jason Euell and John Hartson.

The way they play will get them to a certain level but will not get them any higher. If they spent a fair bit of money (15-25 million they could have a team that could be top six quite comfortably.

Just as well Monkey Heed is their manager!

You can see Montella swapping the delights of the Eternal City for the delights of Sunderland, can't you?

I've been reading postings on this BBS and its predecessor for nearly three seasons. Of course we never make unrealistic comments like this.

As always, we've slipped down slowly, slipped down sideways but always spoken of finishing in the top six and all that this implies for next season.

Starry eyed? Us Mags? Never!

Of course we do, but it's a great joy to laugh at the delusions of others. And the Makems are deluded.

Not many sets of fans more deluded than us! IMHO

The expectation was brought about by finishing 2nd (the first time) and how easy it looked to go the whole hog. Now we look like the makems without Quinny.

More statements from Bobby, writing a cheque his team can't cash. Great manager but why set himself up like this. If he's trying to pressure the board into action he hsould do it behind closed doors.

Bobby Robson has piled pressure on himself and his under-achieving Newcastle team by declaring they must finish near the top of the Premiership. The frustrated United boss - having kept the Magpies in the Premiership last term - insists it is now time to raise the club's ambition again. And that, he reminded chairman Freddy Shepherd, means strengthening the first team to ensure that the disappointing lower-league finishes of recent years are a thing of the past. "We're at the point where we have to move on to the second phase in terms of developing this club," he said. "That involves improving the club in every aspect, but certainly in terms of strengthening the first team and making sure we don't drop to anywhere near the bottom half again." But Robson warned that there will be hard work ahead before the club can reacquaint themselves with the adventures of European football. "We've got to work at improving our domestic game and get into the top echelons of the Premiership as soon as possible. "When we're ready - and we have to be ready - then we will fight for our European spot and hopefully go on to do well in whatever competition we qualify for."
