Shearer says one thing - NUFC says another

NUFC - Alan is merely having a scan not an operation as reported in the press. Alan - we'll see what the exploratory operation shows up. Hmm.

Another communications coup - "...why do the fans need to know the precise details anyway?"

This raises two questions. DOes Shearer know what a scan is? And do the medical boys know what an op is? Silly beggers.

or are they one in the same?

They are surely covering something up here, I reckon he'll be out till March.

"The plot thickens" - the following is from tonight's Ronnie:

Shearer was undergoing an exploratory operation on his knee injury today and regardless of the outcome, he will then take a complete rest for a week.
But he remains optimistic and told me today: "We will assess the situation after the exploratory operation. However, while I will miss Saturday I am very hopeful of being ready for our game with Bradford City at St James's Park the following weekend".

.....and from tomorrow morning's Journal:

"Reports that Alan Shearer had an exploratory operation on his knee and will be fit to play in the Bradford City game next weekend are well wide of the mark".

And so it goes on - just as well the fans aren't really interested in such trivia!

Whoops!! Sorry.

Sorry, Alan, dear. You are not a Dr. You cannot assess yourself. Now shut up. Spend some time with your family. Creosote your fence. Read a good book. Watch more TV. Don't come back until a REAL doctor says you can. :-)

So what's with these exploritory operations? They make a slight incision, then have a bit of a poke around hpoing to find what? a gang of field mice that have set up home for the winter in his knee?

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000

That would explain the squeaking noises.

hat...coat...byeeeeeeee! ;-)

Al will have arthroscopy most likely- basically an incision then a mini camera will be put into his knee joint to see whats causing the recurring problem. NUFC perhaps used the wrong word in 'scan' but its not regarded as an 'operation' as they wudnt do any operating to repair anything at the time. Unless of course the camera shows a minor prob that cud possibly be repaired via the camera- unlikely though. Will Santa buy Bobby a striker for Xmas? Bloomin hope so.

Whaddya reckon Rik? Are we talking amputation here? He'd be out for 2 or 3 weeks if that's the case. Knee bother.

Let's hope something concrete emerges on this before too long. I'm starting to get a bit squeamish on this thread. I'm just very relieved it's not a groin injury.

With our luck, Jonno, if something concrete emerges, it'll probably be a lump of the East Stand onto Kieron Dyer's heed.
