Another emergency landing at Hartsfield Will Anderson - Staff Sunday, December 3, 2000

A Delta Airlines flight en route to Huntsville, Ala., became the third airplane since Wednesday to make an emergency landing at Hartsfield International Airport.

Flight 975 landed without incident around noon Saturday after discovering a problem with the craft's hydraulic system, said Delta spokeswoman Jackie Pate. The hydraulic system used to steer the airplane on the ground was not functioning properly. As a result, the plane had to be towed to a hangar for repair.

The pilot of the Boeing MD-88 turned back in mid-flight because Delta's main mechanic shop is located here at Hartsfield, Pate said. An emergency chute was not needed, and the 62 passengers on board caught another flight to Huntsville within two hours after landing
