argh! Anyone else having problems getting(and keeping!) the webcast? I had it for about 5min, then lost it and now getting a message "you may be experiencing network problems". Well, I'm not cause I can get 5 live's matchday internet broadcast thingy just fine.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Well, I'll just keep talking to myself, shall I? ;-))

Looks like the problem is with .cock...can't get anything to load from their server.

Back-up webcast link is at Villa's site: http://195.92.24.84/commentary/index.shtml

I'm connected to it now, but there's nothing going on.

The wife and friends performed “ New York New York” and all the little girls dressed as little bunnies. All the parents saying how cute and gorgeous they looked…Yuk…………and no beer!!!!!!

Christ !!! what a night. Bring on the Lads!

Ok Ok Don't panic. Don't panic. It's just a minor complication.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Clarky, what's Metro saying about us? I can only get Villa's webcast and other than Given, they don't seem to be mentioning the other players very often

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Hello all I didn't have my shirt on Sunday (we won) I had it on on Wednesday (we lost) I am not wearing it now (we are losing) what do you reckon should I or shouldn't I put it on now?

Hello all btw!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Ahhh...this is better. Got metro back on the webcast. The guy announcing on Villa's site must be one of our former announcers from last year. b-o-r-i-n-g

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Metro are saying "That was a little more encouraging in the last five minutes."

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Hi Jay! What if you just draped it over your shoulders?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

argh..lost Metro again, back on Villa's. Hughes going off into the dressing room. Villa's crack stadium annoucer has helpfully announced over the PA that Barton is replacing Hughes (??). In reality sounds like Caldwell is coming on.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I have had no problem with the webcast but given the score I wish I was. Then I would still be in blissful ignorance backing in a 0-0 or evebn 0-1 to us! ;o(

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Hi all. I reckon we're looking at 4-0 today. Ever the optimist.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

So are County winning then Screach?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Screach...does your firewall block ALL real audio? The official s*ite's server keeps going down, so not much joy to be had from that link. Villa's is up however.

Didn't Min say something about going away for the weekend? With Galaxy wasn't it? Neither of them are here anyhow.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Morning all...just got here. Webcast sounds like crap. What's happening??

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Has the game stopped???

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Speed booked for a bad challenge. He must be close to suspension by now. Hasn't he been booked in the last 3 or 4 games?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

"Speed is having to do the job of three men" says the commentators. What is that. Where are the others.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Goma's coming off.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

No worries about Speed being suspended. We have his replacement lined up - Lee Clark.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Your praying to false-Gods Buff. Both central defenders off injured BEFORE half-time. rotten, rotten luck

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Domi coming on in left back.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Gma off and Domi on Speed had been down injured too

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

to recap - is the back four now >> Griffin, Barton, Caldwell, Domi???

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

eh? Villa annoucner saying BArton and Griffin have switched. Who's playing where???

Wait...perhaps this is our new strategy. confuse the opposition by having our players change position every few minutes. Maybe.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Howay me bonny lads...Gerrintithim!!!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Just don't concede anything till half-time. time to reorganise.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Thanks Buff! Jay, Al has injuries to his back and knee

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

If Barton's gone to LB, where's Domi - CB???

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Covered in snow, Gibbo.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I've just realised the webcast I'm listening to is about 3 minutes behind yours. Acuna's only just hit the post on mine. Which are you lot listening to?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I have metro on

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

so just how dependent are we on Big Al then? c'mon lads, roll yer sleeves up and show a bit of grit.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Scum 1 up, Smoggies 1 down. Bye bye Robbo.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

When did Acuna hit the post? The Villa webcast is so bad, I didn't even realize they'd gotten to half time. Back to sweeping. I'm too nervous to sit still.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Well, the Dog's just told me:

GOVERNMENT WARNING
(1)According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy becasue of the risk of birth defects. (2)Consumprion of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery and may cause health problems. Wish I'd read that last bit last night before I poured a glass of Milwaukee's best over my keyboard.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Just to recap:-

3 minutes gone, Shay given saves with his face, but it isn't cleared properly , Dion Dublin gets to the ball and heads it into the net. Newcastle get back into the game after the early shock and start to put some decent moves together. Aaron Hughes gets a bad knock in the 15th minute, after a clash with Dion Dublin , he seems to have a head injury and goes off for treatment. Newcastle are down to 10 men for five minutes and Lee Hendrie comes close to scoring , eventually he is replaced by Stephen Caldwell. Mid way through the half Daniel Cordone has a good chance to set up Solano in acres of space, in a great position to score but chooses the wrong option and tries to go it alone. He gets a free kick on the edge of the box which Speed can't make anything of. Alain Goma is next to leave the arena after he starts limping on the half hour mark. Looks like a re-occurance of his calf injury. Domi comes on and the defence is reshuffled yet again, lining up :-

Griffin ...... Barton .........Caldwell ........ Domi.

It's not just the defence that has problems, in midfield Villa continue to turn Newcastle inside out with Steve Stone on the right , Ginola on the left and Hendrie in the middle causing our midfield all kinds of problems. Upfront Dyer and Cordone don't have a clue, but with a lack of substitutes now available it looks like the pair will just have to do there best. Unfortunately Cordone's best isn't very good. Just before the break Newcastle come close to equalising . Solano finds dyer who instead of shooting himself passes to Acuna .... He hits the post.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Is it half -time? Off to the fridge for me then!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Alreet, nowt to lose in the second half. Everything to gain, caution to the wind and get into them. Villa might just get a little cocky. Let the lads off the leash Bobby, tell them to go out and enjoy themselves. Like I said, nowt to lose.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Ciara - you must be listening to the same one as me - it's about two minutes delayed...?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Half time - even though Acuna hit the post, apparently we're fortunate to be only 0-1 down; however, technically we're still in it if BR can work a bloody miracle at HT.

Hughes and Goma both off injured so Newcastle United FC now has one fit 19 year-old CB! I believe the back four is Griffin..Barton..Caldwell..Domi.

Cordone appears to be playing utter sh*te; Dyer seems to be working hard but looking very frustrated; Gary Speed is working his bollox off plugging holes all over the field - pity about the despicable comments directed at him on here.

We seem flat, low in confidence, and in trouble.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Untidy half - mixing it midfield area, that`s a first for us if true, This game will make or break young Caldwells future at Newcastle c`mon son you can show them , man the trenches, never know Glass might even get on .

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Glass not on the bench, Buff. For my money, no more injuries permitting, he'll put LLL on for Acuna on about 65 mins. Off to watch SkySprouts - good luck fellas, cya after.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Buff Glass won't get on as I made a mistake with the subs, all that's left is Harper, Bassedas and LuaLua. Knowing our luck Lua won't get on for Cordone as Barton will go down injured causing BR to put Lee in as a defender and use Bassedas, who will then go down injured ,and.... we'll get stuffed.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Good point, Pete. Might as well just go out and enjoy themselves now. We're losing now anywya. Doesn't matter if it's 1 goal or 3. On the other hand if Bobby takes the pressure off them, they may respond and battle for a draw or even a win.

BTW...have switched over to 5 live on the net during HT. Thye have a special show for internet listeners now. Not bad. Updates of all the games and taking emails from listeners. They've also got MOTD pictures and said Bryan Robson is looking like Dead Man walking now.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

If you want to listen, plug this into your RA player: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio5live/live/output28.ram

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

So now, it's:

Given
Griffin Hughes Goma Barton
Griffin Barton Caldwell Domi
Solano Speed Lee Acuna
Dyer Cordone

With:

LuaLua Harper Bassedas Caldwell Domi on the bench.

So what do we do - Lua x2 or Bassedas to come on?? We can put Caldwell in goal if owt happens to Shay so Harps can get changed.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Here we go, Kick off, And I'll have to finnish putting up those Xmas decorations off. Catch you later...

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Doing canny so far. The Toon Army are simply incredible - you have to feel so proud of them: certainly doing their very best to lift the Lads. Geordies, Geordies, Geordies, Geordies.............

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Dunno! Whats gannin on?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Sounds like Caldwell is our best player at the moment.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Come on me Bonny Lads......Come On!!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Dublin knicked the ball off Lee with an elbow his face and Ginola has just mucked up the through ball. Shay has just made a save from another Dublin ball.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Time for a bit of a sing:

I went to Blaydon Races 'Twas on the 9th of June Eighteen Hundred and Sixty Two On a Summer's Afternoon We took the bus from Balmbras And she was heavy laden Away we went along Collingwood Street That's on the Road to Blaydon Chorus: Oh me lads, you should've seen us gannin' Passing the folks along the road just as they were stannin' Aal the lads and lasses there aal wi' smilin' faces Gannin along the Scotswood Road To see the Blaydon Races We flew past Armstrong's factory And up by the Robin Adair gannin ower the Railway Bridge The bus wheel flew off there The lasses lost their crinolenes And the veils that hide their faces I got two black eyes and a broken nose gannin t' Blaydon Races Oh me lads... Now when we got the wheel back on Away we went again But them that had their noses broke They went back ower hyem Some went to the dispensary And some to Doctor Gibbses And some to the infirmary To mend their broken ribses Oh me lads... We flew across the Chain Bridge And into Blaydon Toon The bellman he was calling then They called him Jackie Broon I saw him talking to some chaps And them he was persuadin' To gan and see Geordie Ridley's show At the Mechanics' Hall in Blaydon Oh me lads... Now when we got to Paradise There were bonny games begun There were four and twenty on the bus And how we danced and sung They called on me to sing a song and I sung 'em 'Paddy Fagan' I danced a jig and I swung me twig The day wi' went to Blaydon Oh me lads... The rain it poured down all the day And made the ground quite muddy Coffee Johnny had a white hat on Shouted 'Whi stole the cuddy?' There were spice stalls and monkey shows And owld wives selling ciders And a chap on a ha'penny roundaboot Saying 'noo me lads for riders?' Oh me lads... (to fade) Right - you start Ciara.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Nice build up play, then Speed caught offside.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I hope Caldwell also get injured, so Bobby Robson must have to sign a new centre back.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

>>>There were spice stalls and monkey shows<<<

So nowt's changed over the years in the EPL then!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Nah, he would then put Harper on the right and play Nobby in the centre with Wozza. Might work.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

couldn't stay away for too long....

I WENT TO BLAYDON RACES< TWAS ON THE 9 TH JUNE......

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

It's now dark in Newcastle.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Haad yer gob, Seedorf. Welcome Min. We've just had a chorus of Blaydon Races - Minnesota's ne'er heard owt like it! How's the hangover??

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

We're going for it - Blaydon Races ringing out. Solano seems to be doing well for us.
CC seems to keep screwing things up - might be worth throwing LuaLua on soon.
Good clearance from Caldwell. Dyer's working his socks off.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Its now dark in Newcastle - Gibbo - priceless - its bliddy dark in the uk, but do keep us informed

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Totally agree Clarky, bring on the youngun, but do it now, not the last ten minutes. Like I said, nowt to lose.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I see Harry Karry's just returned for Leeds. I thowt he was oot fer the season.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Who's you take off PiC and Clarky??

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Cordone...he's done nowt so far.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Ah - that was Clarky's "CC". I thought Carl Cort had made a mirraculous recovery!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I shouldn't expect that much will change until about 7.30 tomorrow morning, Buff. Newcastle could carry on playing until then and still not score.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Midfield seems to be holding their own and the defence, well there are no options, it has to be Cordone off for Lua Lua.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Radebe off for Leeds at Leicester. Three nowt down, Eighteen Million out of the bank and O'Deary's not a happy man!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Been off doing some cleaning. This webcast really is dreadful. All I can make out is the toon Army. Not a bad thing, but tells me nothing about how we're doing.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

HOWAY BOBBY!!! give Lua Lua a run, he might just be the spark that lights the fire.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

I don't understand why Bobby Robson picked Cordone. Shearer is injured, so he should replace him with another goalscorer. Coppinger or Chopra with Dyer upfront might be better.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Oh Louis Louis - time to make a name for yourself.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

LuaLua stripping off to come on for CC. We seem to be holding our own and battling well - if we could only snaffle a point from this scrapping display it could do wonders for us, C'MON ON BOYS

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Howay Clarky - WTF is CC?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Great interception from Barton - playing well. He and Caldwell seem to have done well since being thrown together.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Great interception from Barton - playing well. He and Caldwell seem to have done well since being thrown together.
RL coming off! - he's not at all happy with it - LuaLua coming on with CC dropping wide left.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Thanks Screach -I mean DC, of course!!

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Burnley just scored. Mebbes they won't need Adebola now ;-))

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Clarky's fantasizing that Carl Cort is actually healthy and playing for us. ;-)))

Got Metro back again. For how long, who knows. They said Lee looked very unhappy about being subbed. Armband flicked in the general direction of Bartinho.

Delighted with this result. Under the circumstances this was a great point, the morale booster we all needed. Warren Barton and young Caldwell sounded heroic. Evening all.

That's what I like to hear! Our lads battling. Hope they can keep doing it next week!

Second half...Now THAT is the commitment and effort I have been looking for from these lads. Big confidence boost. Well Done Warren Barton...and everyone else. A good point well earned.

he second half(if you missed the web cast)

Second half kicks off and Domi looks like he's been told to push further forward. Lee Hendrie snuffs out the early threat with a heavy tackle. A couple of minutes into the game Hendrie goes in hard again this time against Solano , Hendrie gets a card and Solano soldiers on. minutes later Solano puts a good cross into the box, Domi is forward again but backs out of a challenge against David James. Defensively Newcastle seem to have come up with a decent combination . Barton and Caldwell cope well in the centre, Griffin handles Ginola amicably on the right and on the left Domi gets the better of Stone. Up front though there are still problems. Cordone is given the ball on a couple of occasions but he wastes the chances . The vocal Toon Army chant for LuaLua and it seems that his introduction could be the only way back for Newcastle. With 76 minutes gone LuaLua comes on for Rob Lee, Cordone drops back to the left wing . Rob Lee, captain for the day throws the captains armband onto the pitch (not a happy chappy) Barton takes the armband , play continues. Cordone is a lot more comfortable on the left hand side getting in a good cross on the 80th minute mark, Dyer can't quite get to it. In the 81st minute a Newcastle fans runs onto the pitch to help out , Gary Speed sees him and tries to pass the ball to him, It's well wide of the fan finding SOLANO who flicks the ball over James and it's 1-1. Not only are Newcastle back into the game they also look like they can win it, they are much more positive in the final minutes. Unfortunately Newcastle run out of time and it ends 1 - 1. Plusses the back four in the second half, negatives Cordone up front. Perhaps a start for Ameobi might be a better option for next weeks game if Shearer is still out.

With both our centrebacks out of action it looks like either Sun Jihai or Pablo Paz will become a Newcastle player before the next game against Arsenal.

Was in celebratory mode anyway, see still the night thread !!!, great result against the odds, makes you think that there maybe something in this venue superstition, dell aaaaggghh Villa Park yeeeeeeees!!! Now Bobby, keep Caldwell in, play him for rest of season , as the Man from Milwaukee states, (think about the captaincy) - as some pointed out in a phrenetic week on the board, Barton returns from injury. has a stinker , wee bit of patience guys, Cordone is a big no no, Lee should be the last guy to moan about being subbed, he is getting a life - line under Bobby, speedy recovery AAron , not bothered about Goma, keep Griffin in, awaiting ITK and his report. Nae wonder I have creases in ear lobes following this lot (medical term, Dr Bill)!!! Love/frustrated relationship, I could never hate em, the sods

Some times guts is all it takes. Barton and Caldwell I kiss your smelly feet :-)

Some Toon fans driving home from VP have called in to the Radio Metro phone-in to say "we were crap!"

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

Maybe so Clarky, but crap with a point won is better than crap with none. I was impressed with the effort today, sounded like the heads didn't drop for once, sleeves got rolled up and they got on with it. That's been a major deficiency this season so far. Hopefully a lesson was learned today.

Give codone a chance imho he isa great dribbler and will battle , put great throughballs and is young enough not to catch the ketsbaia illness of running into defenders.

No argument from me Pete iC - I was passing on an first eye-witness observation, NOT offering my own view.

...and here's another one!
Radio Metro match commentator, Mick Martin, was very critical of Goma after the game. He was unhappy with his Goma's attitude after Aaron Hughes had already had to leave the pitch - he reckoned Goma was just looking for an excuse to also get off the pitch.
