Survey of Leica Screw Mount Repair Technicians

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Who have you used for CLA or repair of your Leica Screw Mount Camera/Lenses? Where are they located? How did you contact them by phone/email?

What work did you have performed? How long did it take? How much did it cost? How satisfied were you with the work?

How were shipping/packing handled? What forms of payment were accepted? What else would be useful to know about this technician?

Sherry quoted me a 9 month wait for a shutter replacement on my IIIf (vs 3 weeks for M repairs). I called Don Goldberg and he said he can have the IIIf back to me in about 3 weeks. I'm about to box it up and ship it to Don.

Don Goldberg (DAG) has done a CLA on both a Leica III and IIIf along with two different lenses for me (50mm Summicron and 35mm 2.5 Nikkor). I was very happy with the results.

With one lens with a focus problem he fixed, he provided me with the processed test film he shot to verify the results of the repair.

I thought the price for his repair work reasonable for the work involved. Usually the repair time was two to three weeks. Items were well packed and sent back to me via 2 or 3 day UPS. Payment by personal check.

Don gets my highest recommendation. He stands by his work with a six month guarantee. Speak with him by phone and explain what you need done and he'll give you a cost/repair time estimate. Hope this is helpful to you.

I highly recommend Youxin Ye in Massachusetts for Leica screwmount and M-series camera body repairs. Mr. Ye is a member of the Leica Historical Society, and I daresay he can write a huge book about all the screw mounts and M-series because he knows them inside out, literally speaking. He replaced curtains and CLA'd a IIIf Black Dial, a IIIf Red Dial, and an M2 for me. All work was excellent, all service was downright honest and fast (2 weeks maximum door to door)! He will give you an honest appraisal and never change anything out that doesn't need to be touched. I shoot regularly with one of the IIIf's and must say that the shutter speeds are right on! His prices were more than reasonable and he's a real gentleman to work with. You can find this Leica repair expert at (781)-830-9141 or email wye7@yahoo.com.

My Leica IIIg and IIIf RD cameras were serviced by Don Goldberg in late 2001. What a great job he did on them! Crisp, smooth, and bright VF. He replaced the eyepiece frame on both cameras. Top notch work! The Leicavit & Summarit were good as new as well.

Don Goldberg has moved five miles down the road. His new address is: D.A.G. Camera Repair 2128 Vintage Drive, Oregon, WI 53575 608-835-334
