I think that Poe is talking abot Eldorado being something that is not of this earth. Eldorado is heaven. Try to go to http://galenet.gale.com and try the user name Virg8149 and the password is the same thing. Go to exploring poetry and then click on POETS and type in Poe. At the bottom of the page there is a link to Eldorado. Click it. After the different lines there are links that will break down the poem for you. It is extremely useful. Good luck!

Eldorado is the happiness poe wished to obtain in his life but could never quite grasp. If you look at it stanza by stanza you can see a pattern of a person starting off with high hopes in search of somthing great, never finding it no matter how much he tried, and then finally realizing that it is unattainable. I read somewhere that this symbolized poe's life.
