What are the funniest/weirdest license plates you've ever seen? What's on your plates (or, what would you like to be)?

Answers

i saw some POS once with a vanity plate that said "classy." because vanity plates are soooo classy and all.

i honestyl have no idea what my license plate number is... if there were ever an announcement to the tune of "will the owner of a white talon with licence plate 7skf48 please come outside, your car has just been crushed into a small cube," i'd probably have to go ask them if there were once 30 stickers on the back of it, because god help me if i could recognize my plates.

i think my license plate number has a K in it. i think.

I saw a beat up and shitty Chevy Citation in a mall parking lot once that had the license plate "YAHWEH." I thought it was the best thing I ever saw.

I saw this one on a frat guy's jeep: BOTL FED.

PUNK

So, very cool. I wonder how long he had to wait to get that one...

Just to lean the topic in another direction... the best bumpersticker I have ever seen was "MY OTHER CAR IS A BROOM." I swear. I pissed myself.

Actually the cox one could refer to a coxswain, in crew. But since it said BIG, I doubt it..because cox are the smalled people on the team. There's one I constantly see that says SPAMVAN. what the hell kind of plate is that?

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

I see vanity plates all the time, but of course I can't remember any of the funniest ones. I once saw one that said XFILES, and there's a guy that went to my school who has MULDER on his. My license is like, 4666 GK or something. I'm so comforted by the 666 part. I wonder if that means something. heh anyhoo..

I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to get on my license plates when I get a car... on the Omni, I had regular old "you get whatever random shit they give you" plates. I want something cool now, dammit. I could always do DIGINK, but Eric's are PRLFEED (is that it?), and that's too copycat-ish for me. Naturally, Eric suggested KATYPOO... erm, fuck that.

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

the other day i saw one that said HOHOUSE! Classic. Mine are the generic "numberletternumberblahblah" ones as of now, but I'm probably getting ones that say SYNCHRO soon (uh, for synchronized swimming).

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

Anyone who's not too young might remember the "Who's the Boss" episode where Tony bought Sam the big-assed ugly yellow boat -- er, car -- and it had the plate "SAMSCAR." I found that pretty funny. I mean, how embarrasing!

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

That ^ would be embarrassing.

For the generic ones does your state go in any order? Mine is letter letter letter number number number. But we ran out so now they're starting new ones (with black writing instead of red! woohoo) with number number number letter letter letter.

My mom's friend got a bumper sticker that says, "Don't Blame me! I voted for Willie Nelson.

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

I see weird ones all the time, but I can never remember what they were. I saw one the other day that said QTPIE, but that's not all that weird. If I got vanity plates, they would either saw HAWKGRL or TEEITUP (I'm a golfer, alright?!)

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

I saw one with "MEOWW" at school, and I thought that was too cute.

But, the best Bumper sticker (I know the question wasn't even about bumber stickers, but I'm following suit) I ever saw said, "We're all dysfunctional, get over it!"

My plate is completely random 41 (our county) --some random letters-- 647.

I don't have a car (hah, it's San Francisco, who can park? I'd have to keep it in my livingroom) but if I ever got one I'd want the license plate "fnord" if it isn't already taken (and I'm rather sure it is) or "fnorden" which should be pronounced fnord-e-n because fnordian has been my online nick for years and years, but it's too many letters. Unfrotuantely I think people would pronounce it "fnorden"...haileris has too many letters, too. :/ "discord" would work. "eris" would be cool, too. And I wouldn't have a problem with "genius" or "atheist" either. Heh heh.

As to license plate formats, someone asked about that; in California we have number-letter-letter-letter-number-number-number. I still remember the license plate for the car my mom drove until I was like 12. Odd.

-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000

i once saw "ltlwilly" or something like that. cracked my shit up, what a thing to advertise...

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2000

I read that Tom Petty has YTTEP and a helpful message on the plate holder: "Read it backwards."

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2000

My favorite license plate was one I saw at school. It said YUUPINIT. I had to sit and think about it for a second, though, but then I went around saying it all day long.

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2000

On my way to a festival at which Ani DiFranco was scheduled to perform, I was behind a car with an ANIROX plate. Someone I know has ###MTV, completely by chance.

-- Anonymous, December 01, 2000

I'll probably feel like a retard, but I don't get it.. YUUPINIT?

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

i just had to chuck in my two cents.. theres one around my town that's URUGLY. which is about as original as you can get round here =P

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

"EIEIO"

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

BOY TOY

it was on this swank little red sports car.

-- Anonymous, December 02, 2000

One of my neighbors has an unnatural obsession with Nine Inch Nails .. his car is covered in NIN stickers and his chain bordered plates read REZNOR. Bizarre.

-- Anonymous, December 03, 2000

YUUPINIT: Ya up in it? Like saying what's up, but sillier.

-- Anonymous, December 04, 2000

My plates say REINA 19 . . REINA's my favorite word in Spanish (it means queen) and I'm conceited like that. . :)

-- Anonymous, December 04, 2000

seen on the streets of cleveland, ohio: a license plate that read : ARRGANT.

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000

MAMAPAPA Fucking weird.

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000

"META 4"--say it aloud if you don't get it at first *grin*.

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2000

I'm getting plates that say ITSMINE, I know... I know... so original, I am. I have a friend who has INVNO1 on hers... I love it.

-- Anonymous, December 15, 2000

In England, licence plates are supposed to take the form "letter- number-up-to-three-digits-long-letter-letter-letter". Hence, the best you get is "P1ANO" and the like. However, I'm quite fond of the ones that a friend of mine's parents have. Their surname is Bagot, so their licence plates are "B4GOT" and "B4GDT".

Mine would be V00DOO, if I could afford it. Or possibly H3ECH or M1MPH.

Katie, dahling, you scare me. See, *I* have a 1998 hunter green Neon that used to be a rental, and the fact that mine is in getting fixed this week coupled with you just getting one makes me wonder if I'll *have* a car to pick up when it's done (hopefully today). I mean, I *did* bring it in to a bad part of Albany...

(I'm kidding, big time. I'm sure my car wasn't stolen from the repair shop and subsequently purchased by your parents. It would be kinda freaky, though...)

Here in New York you can get all sorts of weird pictures on your plates, including a wide assortment of sports teams. My plates have the Albany River Rats (local hockey team) logo on them and read BLUMP. (It's a family nickname, don't freakin' ask.) Check out this page to get an idea of what they look like.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go put that wacky British kid who likes to bug you in a tree. (Sing with me now: "On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me / Tim Partridge in a pear tree." Ah geez, he's gonna kill me if he reads this...)

How about a bumper sticker that says "Honk if you enjoy peace and quiet"

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2001

My plate says "RIOTBOY".

Wisconsin was Letter-Letter-Letter, Number-Number-Number (red on white) until late 2000. (Example.. My old toyota: SYY-139)

Maximum of seven letters. Hey, where are you people from who are posting 8-letter plates? The only one I know of is New York.

After late 2000, it's Number-Number-Number, Letter-Letter-Letter. Black on white. (Example.. My astro: 762-BXK)

Some cool plates I've seen in Madison:

An OLD (and nice) chevy nova with this license plate: NO GO

A 1988 (or 1989/1990) honda prelude with this license plate underneath the word "prelude": TO A CRSH (ya know.. "prelude to a crash"... Cute, huh?)

MULDER, TEKNO DJ, BLUROOM, MKE SUX (Milwaukee Sucks), and my personal favorite: IM1RU12 -- With a rainbow sticker. I think it quite obviously refers to homosexuality.

I've seen two eagle talons with the following plates (I noticed these because I used to own a TSI/AWD Talon):

TSI AWD (model designation for turbo, all wheel drive. It was for sale!!)

BUH BYE (presumably on a similar vehicle)

A funny non-personalized one I know of.. is this man-hating woman I know in Janesville.. the plate on her truck is: "KLL 666" -- How appropriate.

Robbie (b/k/a riotboy) -- http://www.riotboy.com

Yesterday I saw one with "6SIX66".

-- Anonymous, January 28, 2001

this kid here, who is a big misfits fan, has a plate that says DANZIG. another girl here who likes black flag has plates that say BLK FLG.

we passed an acura with a big black guy driving it with plates that said BLACURA.

-- Anonymous, February 11, 2001

not a license plate, but a license plate HOLDER... it was on a honda accord, and it said "silly rabbit! civics are for kids!!"

classic.

-- Anonymous, February 26, 2001

<>

We do? I live in California and my plate is 3U3O535...then again my car's 12 years old.

I never see funny license plates, just stupid ones. I saw one the other day that said 4NANGEL or something like that. This bitchy rich girl's license plate at my school is NTASSIA, short for her name. She drives a Mercedes....barf.

I do remember that "Who's the Boss".
That episode was a trip, big yellow, "TWO TONS OF DETROIT'S FINEST STEEL!"
My plate is DA TWINK.
My nickname is twinkie, if you haven't guessed by now, so Twinkie was taken, so was Twink (but that has a homosexual reference, so that was out) so I settled for DATWINK. I'm likely going to change it, but shit, my email and IM are all variations of it.
Best plates I've seen:
IXLR8- My old roomate drove a red mustang, this was his plate for a while.
I saw this one about a month ago
6UL-DV8 (think about it).

THA MACK
That was a pretty good one

I also learned that the DMV has a web site you can do all sorts of things with, so one day in my infinite computer knowledge, created plates that I'd like to see.
One is an inside joke, actually three are, but here's the address
PLATES!!!
Twinkie

Well if you want a custom license plate in ( good ol ? ) MICHIGAN....it'll rock you DOUBLE your normal license fee EVERY YEAR...... avg....about $ 260.00 PER YEAR ( welcome to the MOTOR city. ) PA was great.....a one time fee of 20 bucks...

-- Anonymous, June 12, 2001

gosh, i hate the Michigan thing! one of my friends announced a few months ago that she was getting a personalized plate. we're like, "and how the HELL do you plan to pay for it?" but she lives in IL parttime, so she got an IL plate. It's DVLNSD, or something that's supposed to be "devil inside". It's hilarious, because her father is a Jehovah's Witness, and he's always like, "What does that mean?..."

-- Anonymous, June 13, 2001

So are they evil, or just an INXS fan?

I know, I know... same thing.
