NUFC Supporters Trust

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

It hasn't been mentioned elsewhere, but I attended the inaugural meeting of the proposed NUFC Supporters Trust at SJP last night.

A motion to accept the incorporation of a Trust is on the Agenda for the Toon AGM next week. The proposition was supported by over a hundred shareholders a few weeks ago.

On a horrible cold, wet night the meeting was very poorly attended, with only around 30 turning up. An Irish guy who has been involved in setting up a similar Trust at Celtic gave a informative talk about their experience, along with some information on the manure Trust which was set up as a follow on from the campaign to stop Sky taking over the Club. The manure Trust appears to have had considerable success and has achieved credibility with the Club.

The outcome was that a Trust will be established that will be open to shareholders and non-shareholders, providing the Club shareholders pass the motion at the AGM - irrespective of the initial level of support.

Having asked a couple of questions containing more than three words, I was 'collared' after the meeting, and may well end up on a Steering Committee tasked with getting it up and running.

I still haven't decided as yet whether I want to get involved, but I do believe it is the best way for the Club's small private shareholders and customers (supporters) to interface with the Club.

I'm very sceptical about the proposed Fan Liaison Committee which has no real teeth, and I suspect will be paid lip service to by the Club.

Naturally, I'll keep you abreast of future developments.

Thanks for the update, Clarky. How seriously do you think the club will take input from this committee? And how forthcoming do you think they'll be with giving out information to the committee?

Thanks for the update on that Clarky....I hope you don't mind, but I have ripped it off and put it onto the Daily Toon website.

Also, I'll mail you in a few minutes.....if you are around check you mail box about 9.30, if you are reading this after 9.30, the message will be there now.

No probs Ken.

It's 10:30pm now - no e-mail has arrived as yet. However, I'm still waiting for another that my mate 1 mile away transmitted to me at 7:30. Great service or what? It would have been quicker for him to write the note, walk around to our house and deliver it in person.

Ciara,
As I said at the meeting, if we have 100 shareholders as members representing 0.01% of the equity, we might as well whistle Dixie (to quote a good ol' US phrase!). However, just imagine we had 30-40,000 season ticket holders, plus shareholders representing say 5% of the equity, as members - that represents real power, and I suspect they might just take some notice. Tall order mind given the general apathy that generally prevails when push comes to shove - which is principally why I'm reticent about getting involved.

thanks for the info. at least it's a start. I like the bit about breasts, but I may have read it wrong.

Mr Gregg - I'll keep everyone else informed: I'll keep the breasts just for you!

ITK,

I've got your e-mail - I hadn't checked my Yahoo account.
Please check the response - if possible I'd like to redraft my original post and get it to you tomorrow to put on your web-site.
There is some other stuff that I've omitted that may be of general interest.

I'm a shareholder & will join it.

Ciara, bearing in mind the number of ST holder shareholders we have and the potential of the Trust, the club would be unwise to treat it with anything other than the utmost respect. However, in terms of information, there are alll sorts of regulations governing the information that a PLC can give out - they can't get involved in selective disclosure of information that could affect the share price. They will therefore have their hands tied in terms of what they can and cannot disclose to the committee. I suspect it'll be more of about liaison and representation.

Clarky

I haven'theard anything from you on this.....your return E Mail doesn't seem to have come through.

I've still got the original saved in my system, and Andy is setting up a page to take them on the site. If you wanted to rewite the original there is still time.......let me know what you wanna do.

Use my Freeserve AND hotmail account, that way I should be sure of getting it at least one.....cheers mate.

ITK,

I've sent two different e-mails to your freeserve account as well the earlier post on here, asking you NOT to publish the original post on this thread which was for a select bbs audience only.
My injudicious crack about questions of more than 3 words might not amuse the other meeting attendees - some of them were big buggers!!
In addition, I omitted to comment on one or two issues that were discussed.

If you're still interested I'll try to redraft as an article and e-mail to you. I'll try to get it to you tomorrow, but it might drift until Saturday.

Clarky

I didn't get either of the E Mails to my freeserve address, so I have checked the system by sending myself one from the hotmail account and its working OK, so I don't know what happened to them.

Anyway, Saturday/Sunday is fine for the re-write. I'm waiting to hear from Andy as to where we are going to put it onto a page, and the C&P one that did go up on the front page will be coming down soon as it has a timed expiry on it.

Also, I'm at work till late the morra (Friday) and then at Villa on Saturday, so probably won't be able to get it on line till Sunday anyway

ITK,

I've just e-mailed the article to your Hotmail address - I've lost your Freeserve address.
Pls. confirm receipt, and let me know if you think it's too long.

I'm weaiting for Andy to sort out the destination page on the site and then I can get it on line.......
