I believe that Poe was inspired by his inner thoughts, and quest for answers to his problems. The end of his poem is parallel to inviting madness and chaos into one's soul.

I believe that Edgar Allan Poe wrote the Raven to show his grief towards the loss of his wife Virginia Clem. Withing the poem the narrator asks the horrid bird about the whereabouts of his dead girlfriend and her conditions which aoutomatically show E.A.P.'s grief and despair and how he needs to know where his beloved wife is...either in heaven...or in hell.
