The Brown Ale logo and marketing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I have an American colleague who remotely supports United (ie. the one in the NE that was called United while Newton Heath were still getting attendances of 218). Anyway, he said that one thing he loved first was the Brown Ale logo. He also says that his kids play "soccer" and that bout 50% of them wear NUFC tops with the old Brown Ale logo. Now, apart from helping to expand the Toon's support over the globe, the Brown Ale thing was apparently a big part of the branding. Hvae we cut our noses off despite our faces with the NTL thing?

I would agree that it is synonymous with Newcastle but only due to it's association with our best times under Keegan when we were high profile.

One thing that rankles with me after watching the Old Firm match on Sunday is Rangers and Celtic both have the NTL logo in black and white which doesn't look nearly so bad. Agreed it may be difficult to pick up on the black and white shirt but no more so than the green and white. That purple and green effort is appaling and we look nearly as bad a Villa, but thankfully not that bad!

Honestly Dougal...if it;s not Manchester being a hamlet in 1850, it;s NW being outsold bu Newcastle :-)

Thinking aloud here. What if two clubs sponsored by the same business come up against each other in a big big qualifier or somesuch. The odds on favourites to win it get crowds averaging no more than 20k, the underdogs get crowds of 50k and more.

Would anybody be surprised if the low gate club were told to throw the game in the interests of big business ? Does this seem an unlikely scenario, and it's just my basic cynicism that prompts my thinking it in the first place ?

So that's why Rangers won 5-1 on Sunday, if Celtic won all the pundits were saying the chamionship was over so NTL decided that wasn't right.

All a light hearted conspiracy theory bt the way if any NTL 'Grande Fromages' are lurking
