Modeling RS-3 in Split Image Scheme

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Hi,

I am planning to model an RS-3 in the split image scheme (SCL lettering over old SAL paint scheme). I'm wondering if anyone has done this and would have any advice before I get started. At this point, I am most interested in any advice anyone may have on which model manufacturer makes the best undecorated unit that will match the prototype, and also any advice on painting the light-yellow stripe on this unit (also what specific paint color will match the stripe). Any other info anyone has would also be welcomed.

Thanks.

Microscale 87-566 has the SAL stripes...and in a recent posting on SMRF, it was stated that Microscale will release a split image set in 2001.

The ACL & SAL HS split image decals are custom sets that were made originally for the Creative Pastime hobby shop. They contain the Seaboard Coast Line road name, numbers, and large SCL initials in the appropriate colors.

The model will be HO scale. I noticed there is a decal set for sale in the catalog section of the ACL/SAL web site titled "HO SCL locomotives 'Split Image' scheme". Is this the Microscale set you were referring to that includes the stripe? Or were you referring to a SAL decal set?

You don't need to paint the stripe.Microscale has it in their set. I don't think there are any split-image decals out there right now. I forgot to ask, what scale?
