Where can we get VCD's

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello - this is a quetion to anyone that may be reading this. I am in the United Kingdom and have a computer capable of playing vcd's. Allthough I cannot play DVD, I know that VCD is out there somewhere, but where. I am told that it may be illegal to sell VCD in the UK, allthough I am not sure. If anyone else knows of a site or place where VCD can be brought in the UK please please let me know. I have tried all the internet sites I can find and as yet to no avail. Thank for any help!!!!!

No it is not illegal to sell VCD's in the UK. Go to the web-site of McNo Ltd: http://www.mcno.com/mcno/autopage/vmov.html On that page you will find many VCD-films. On other pages of McNo you will find VCD's in different catagories like music, humor, educational, culture etc.

On the contrary, Eppo, it IS illegal to sell VCDs in the UK which have not been classified by the The British Board of Film Classifications (BBFC).

BBFC's official stand is that unclassified VCDs cannot be supplied WITHIN the UK as this would constitute a breach of the Video Recordings Act 1984.

However, we are free to import unclassified VCDs from abroad for our own personal use provided the VCDs do not contain any illegal material. If they do contain such material, or are suspected to do so, HM Customs and Excise are within their rights to seize the goods in question.

I hope this helps to clear the air, Timothy.

My favorite site to purchase VCDs is www.vcdgallery.com

Thank you Timothy; fortunately I am not too old to learn that I should not make conclusions by implicitly assuming. Having bought VCD's from McNo Ltd I did assume it is legal to sell. Appearently the VCD's I bought were BBFC classified. Friendly greetings, Eppo R. Kooi.

In my previous message the first part of the first sentence should have been: Thank you Mark; fortunately ..... Friendly greetings, Eppo R. Kooi.

The problem for reseller in UK is to comply with UK Trading Standard. UK Trading Standard will take action on those selling locally in UK because imported video classifications are not the same as in UK. I always purchase online from allvcd.com and I never have any custom problem.

hiya.further to your other answers,it is prefectly legal to import films for private use.however, bear in mind that the films are subject to the censorship laws of the country from which they are being exported.the film that you receive may differ from its UK counterpart and not always for the better..lee j

Actually, i recommend newvcds. I bought a few videos off of them and am very pleased. I am happiest since they are unreleased videos. Their address is: sales@newvcds.hypermart.net

I'm opening a site if you wish to purchase DVD's and VCD's.

It will be a mix of old and new, and pre-release. I stand-by the quality of these.

Bookmark the site, and check back soon.

Try going to www.d9movie.com. They have lots of new movies and the price are reasonable. I've bought some myself and quite satisfied with it.
