greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

well all i can say is OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! i live in the UK, so i haven't seen any of season 7 yet. im very angry coz i don't even know when we are going to get it. I'm missing ER so much! A friend told me kerry used to be married, and that she said it in last night's episode. I am so shocked! I would never have known. I am a big fan of laura innes, so i cant help liking kerry lots. She's my favourite female character on the show. I'm looking forward to seeing her in action soon (if the new season ever makes its way here!). I'm also sad to hear mark has a brain tumour. How did you guys find out? Did you see him getting a scan or something in the show? Thanks, and glad to see a lot of you are enjoying the new season

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost fell on the floor when Kerry said that last night! I thought it was so cool to have that kind of info come out. I'll take that suprise over another explosion anyday.

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My jaw dropped when Kerry made that announcement. Now we know there was a mysterious man in her past because she said something about her love going to Africa once. Was that her husband do you suppose?

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kerry having a husband and we never knew...hmmm, I think the writers are finally at the bottom of the creativity pool and might be stealing storylines from fanfiction. May I suggest something? How about this: In the following episodes, Mark could die and during his funeral, we'd meet his long lost brother William, who happens to look just like him and will be played by AE, and will immediatly fall for Liz and help her raise her child.... ;)

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL Jules! You should be a writer for the show. You always seem to come up with funny plotlines. Anyway, I was shocked too. Don't you just love how the writers squeeze these surprises once in a while. Remember in AMMIH when Mark says to Carol "He's been seeing them."? Now they give us another shocker.

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant be a writer for ER Cammie, I'm already a writer for Harlequin, Days of Our Lives, latin soap operas and horoscopes, I couldnt fit it in my calendar...hehehe, just kidding. Now, the fanfic writers always have to put warnings (I dont owe this characters, blahblahblah) maybe its time for a new warning to stop TPTB from stealing their ideas. Something like this: "WARNING: I love to write about Carter being hit, falsely accused of murder and bitten by a dog in the same day and then healed in the next chapter; SOME people enjoys reading my stories, even though there are plenty of inconsistencies on it, but that doesnt mean that I or other ER fans actually want to see it happen on TV, so keep you filthy and unoriginal hands away from my fanfic"

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't really think they stole the idea from your story, do you?

That seems a little on the "big-headed" side, don't you think?

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont write fanfics Rusty, it was a joke...trying to illustrate what I consider a lack of consistency in the writing.

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I missed the first half of the episode (!!!) but I did see this and I swear I heard a loud *thump* across the east coast as viewers jaws hit the floor. Are they going to expand on this?? Please, please PTB, don't tease us, I beg of you!

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this was actually one of the best parts of the show...I could handle this surprise (unlike the others! Though I knew about most of them) and they put it in there so subtly, with no explanation, that a lot of us are going to be waiting around for some more parts to this story. Loved it!

Response to Kerry was married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We found out about Mark because his neck had been hurting since he played in a hockey game w/Maluchi a couple of episodes back. He then had a dizzy spell while working on a patient which made him realize something was wrong so he went and had either a scan or an mri done and when they were looking at the results the tech told him it was a tumor and to see a neurosurgeon as soon as possible. Not only did we find out about Kerry's ex-husband, the woman she was with is a lesbian and thought they were on a date so I think they're going to put Kerry into a lesbian relationship.

Ever since I saw a picture of Laura Innes in the "Entertainment Weekly" article "Is Your TV Set Gay?" I thought that Kerry *was* gay. LOL! The dinner scene was great, I think it's so cool that they're giving her more of a plotline than just being the glue that holds the ER together!

-- Heather (heather7021@hotmail.com), November 24, 2000.

And then Hathaway will open the next season and we will find out it was all a dream!!!! (Remember that from "Dallas"?)

-- Minnie (tcminnie@aol.com), November 25, 2000.

Yeah, she'd walk in on Doug in the shower, and...oh wait, I'm not Phyl. ;)

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), November 25, 2000.

I am Phyl, and I've already played THAT scene in my mind. Several times. Ahem. ;^D

-- Phyl (erfan@flash.net), November 26, 2000.

Do you think Doug knew Kerry was married? He knew her before County right?

-- (noscrubs@my_deja.com), November 27, 2000.

Good point. People at the ER said implied many times that Doug loved gossip(both knowing and spreading) so if someone should know, it should be Doug and he would have told everybody because he couldn stand her. Something nasty like: "she's divorced and I cant blame the husband from running from her"

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), November 28, 2000.

Didn't Peter know Kerry before she came to county as well? I can never remember. Perhaps Kerry's divorce is just one of those things that isn't fair game? It came as a surprise, but not an unrealistic one (unlike Doug seeing the twins).

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), November 29, 2000.

Jules- I have to agree with you. You know Doug would have loved to have used this against her. He probably would have said something like "No wonder your ex-husband left you. You're such a bit*h." Well, maybe he wouldn't have been that mean. Or would he have? We will never know.

-- Andie (no@no.com), November 29, 2000.

IMO Doug would, maybe not in her face, but he'll talk behind her, like the time he (what's the word) imitated the way she walks with a crutch. The character (as much as we love him) was very childish sometimes. Oh my, I'm going to start singing "The Way we Were" any minute...=)

-- jules (jules@operamail.com), November 29, 2000.

Jules, the word is mock.

Any way: I don't think Kerry's husband left her, or vice-versa, I think he was killed and she was seriously injured (a.k.a the crutch) notice how she said: "Yes' and he WAS a surgical resident." any way, just my opinion.

-- Teddy (richarr@earthlink.net), June 17, 2001.

Teddy, you are a fine writer! Very plausible explanation for Kerry's crutch and lack of husband. However, given the 7th season's plot line, it may be that Kerry's lack of relationships/ended marriage really stem from her being so emotionally removed. And why is she so distant when it comes to most of her interpersonal relationships, as opposed to her doctor-patient relationships? Well, perhaps it's an ambiguity she feels about who she is as a person, rather than just a medical professional...hence, her budding relationship with a woman, Kim. I think we'll learn more about her next season.

-- Malik (Texdina@aol.com), August 06, 2001.

Oops. Did I misspell "ambiguity?" I've been on this computer too long, today...

-- Malik (Texdina@aol.com), August 06, 2001.

I hope we will learn more about her next season.

Hey, I'm from Brazil and I'm a big fan of ER. Kerry is my favourite character, and even though this is an old topic - WAY TOO OLD, LOL! - I'm going to discuss it anyway. I didn't know Kerry was married, I missed that episode, to tell the truth I'm so lost I don't even know if this episode has aired here. You see, ER used to air on Sony Entertainment Television in Brazil, but then Warner BR bought the show, and they showed reruns for a while, and.... I'm totally confused!

Anyways, I think it's great info, I've always wanted to know about Kerry's past, she's so enigmatic and all. About her being gay, well, I just think it's a shame, with all those gorgeous men on the show!

I think it's a shame TPTB didn't explore Doug and Kerry's relationship so much, it would have been great! They just hate each other so much, you could feel the tension between them... those were two entertaining characters when they were together!

gtg, by!
