SOLAR FLARE

SOLAR FLARE: NOAA satellites recorded a
powerful X2-class solar flare on Nov. 24th
at 0500 UT. The eruption -- located near
sunspot group 9236 -- triggered a strong
radio blackout on the sunlit side of Earth.
Soon afterward, a bright coronal mass
ejection (CME) moving ~900 km/s appeared
in SOHO coronagraph images. Although the
eruption was near the Sun's central meridian,
the CME does not appear to be Earth-directed.
