Poor lambkin. I wonder how he's feeling now. One of the saddest things on Saturday was that a few people tried to get a "Shearer! Shearer" going and it just died cos we were all so devastated. I hope he gets a really big cheer on Sunday. The worst of it is, his pen miss has served to eclipse what should be a major discussion point this week: how crap Kevin Phillips is. Did anyone think he was remotely good apart from that cross?

If Phillips is a future England striker, might as well forget about 2002 and 2006, the man is hopeless.Shearer won't let this setback effect him, he'll probably come back and get a hat rick against the scousers on Sunday , once again silencing his critics.

Kevin who? Other than that cross and when the cameras picked him up hand-bagging our players behind the ref's back, never noticed him. ;-)

The mackems had a rousing chant of "Shearer! Shearer!" going until the end of the game. I just hope people might stop chanting his name every time he wins a throw in, makes a tackle, ties up his laces etc: he doesn't seem to need to do a lot does he? Time was when people would have groaned when a centre forward played the ball off a defender to gain a corner rather than attempt a shot/cross. Especially odd with no more Dunc or Dabizas in the area making it an outside chance at best.

He's a decent goal-poacher, but he makes minimal contribution to the team and just can't see him as a fixture for England.
His body language last Saturday was of a player who wants away. I reckon he'll be off at the end of the season to a real club - assuming one is prepared to pay big bucks for him.

Thing is Softie - who's he realistically going to cross to? The best crosses we've seen in the past three seasons have been from him. I think he's just given up. Agree re shots, though.
