Has anyone else downloaded Netscape 6? What do you think about it?

While we're on the subject... do you prefer Internet Explorer or Netscape?

I have both on my laptop but only use Explorer. I haven't seen the new version of Netscape, is it any good?

I haven't used the new netscape either. IE all the way for me. I like it better because for me netscape takes 3 times longer to load, crashes a billion times more, and a lot of sites these days don't even work in netscape. It's just easier for me.

I used to use Netscape, now I've got IE, but the site looks good both ways.

netscape 6 is really cool actually, and i'm a die-hard NS hater. It supports almost everything correctly, and is very up to par with IE. I'd say a few more fixes and it'll be perfect.

About Netscape... I like 6, especially the look of it. But certain things really suck ass about it... first off, Manage Bookmarks. There's no managing involved in mine. It's like, I try to put them in alphabetical order, Netscape tells me to go fuck myself. I try to re-arrange them manually, Netscape tells me to go fuck myself. I add a few bookmarks and try to move them to a folder, Netscape tells me to go fuck myself.

The mail program isn't all that wonderful, either, and there's no way to set Netscape up to use any other mail program. So if I'm at a website and want to e-mail somebody from it, I have to open Outlook and type the address in instead of just clicking the link. And I'm a lazyass, dammit.

netscape = sacrelige. *shudder*

I downloaded it but I didn't like it so I deleted it. There's nothing really wrong with it, I just didn't like the way it made the text on my site look and I didn't feel like having to think about how to fix..

I use to think Netscape was everything and IE was evil [since it lets people copy your source code really easy] But now I use IE all the time. I like my webpage better in it. Also scrolling is a lot smoother and you can't do all the cool little things like have a fixed background in Netscape... So, I think IE rules... [/end]

Actually, Netscape 6 lets you fix the background now.

What I want to know, is if there's a way to get Netsix to check your e-mail automatically without the mail window open. Netfour had this ability, apparently Netsix does not, unless I'm forgetting something.

Going against the norm here, I love Netscape. I think I love it just because it's not IE. See, Netscape seems to handle backgrounds and tables a lot better than IE. My site looks beautiful (?) In Netscape, but in IE the backround image (a whole pixel worth of color) loads sporatically, and when you scroll it often turns the background white (which is stupid since the text is white).

Netscape 6 has a few too many bugs, but IE is that whole world I hate. And I hate those channels built in. I don't care who is openly victim to the empire.

Anyone remember Quarterdeck Mozaic? I loved that the most.

I decided to download Netscape 6 recently. After installing it on both my Linux desktop and Windows notebook, I was less than impressed by it. After watching it flake out even more than the Netscape 4.7x series on both machines, I began wondering why I was wasting my time with this. More importantly, I wondered why they were wasting their time releasing it. Besides the increase in commerce-related buttons and the ability to change themes, I saw no real benefit to using it.

Lately, I've been having better success with some of the nightly builds of Mozilla, the browser from which Netscape 6.0 is a derivation. Granted, Java is broken currently on Mozilla, but that should be fixed in the upcoming weeks. Another reasonably competent browser is Opera; not as feature rich as Netscape or IE, but it's a lot smaller and compatible where it's important (the World Wide Web Consortium standard).

I've used IE at times; it generally works, and is less crappy on the whole than Netscape. However, some of its tendencies (like automatically filling in forms) annoy me greatly, and the general ideas (active desktop, activex, etc.) irk me from a security perspective. Nonetheless, it's probably the best full-featured browser out there for end-user consumption right now

In fact, the W3 Consortium has a browser/editor of their own called Amaya. Not really for home use, it's nonetheless useful for people who design web pages to make sure that their HTML/CSS/XML is reasonable across browsers.

Netscrape; any version is E.V.I.L.

I come up with a perfect design for a web page, and then Wham! Netscape destroys it. Even some Javascript (what?!!!) doesn't work! Didn't they invent javascript? what the hell?

Obviously you cant paste html in here.. check out: http://members.iinet.net.au/~bertdb/netscape6/ns6_bug.htm It works in every browser except netscape6

- Actually the screen.width thing does work, but you have to close and reopen netscape everytime you change the settings (the only broswer that you have to)

I like IE a lot, but it is recently displaying a bug that is so bad I had to download Netscape 6. For some reason, IE will not load background imagery anymore. No background color at all! I'm pissed off because I liked IE. Has anyone else experienced this shit? it has done this to me in the past, but fixed itself within about half an hour. Could it be my provider?

About 2weeks ago, I download the latest build of Netscape 6. I spent probably 4 days trying to get my aol mail through it. From what i saw on it's compatability looks very good. However, in my opionion the browser is not ready to join the AOL client just yet. Internet Explorer version 5 or higher has a fast load time. Netscape runs considerably slow. Mind you, the browser is bases on JAVA 2 technology. Be warned, you need a decent machine with a considerable amount of ram. Cyrix is not recommended, very bad delay between sites.

Currently awaiting the Internet Explorer 6.
