New Canon 28 - 90 lens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I wished to get some feedback about the new Canon 28-90 USM lens that replaces the 28-80 lens as the standard zoom. I am planning a new purchase and had pretty much written off the 28-80 in favor of a 28-105 since the latter is reputed to be much sharper.

However, the new 28-90 seems attractive due to its low weight. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback.

Many thanks, Rajat.

There are probably not enough of these out to give you a good sampling of opinions, but... It looks about the same as the 28-80. It weighs about the same as the 28-80. It feels about the same as the 28-80. It's priced about the same as the 28-80. Everyone expects it to be about the same as the 28-80.

So if that's not the quality you had in mind, I would delay your purchase until several people can verify that the expectations are all wrong. Not very likely though. Also, it doesn't offer full time manual focusing if that's an interest to you.
