Knee problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

My mother is 83 years old and has suffered with knee pain for several years. Dr. Frank Johnson of the St. Vincent Hosptial in Carmel, Indiana, examined her and stated her knee is "bone on bone" and this is causing the severe pain. He stated she is not a candidate for knee resplacement because of her poor circulation in her legs. He did not have a solution besides staying off her legs to relieve the pressure on the joint.

Question: I heard there is a procedure for placing a "cushion" between the bones in the knee joint to help releive the pain. Is this a possibility or are there any other suggestions to help h

I am going to begin a series of 3 injections of Synisc next Tuesday. You get one injection seven days apart for a total of 3. They are expensive (around 400 - 450 each) plus the cost of the injection. It is a rubber substance that is supposed to build up a spacer that will last with moderate use of leg, 6 months or more. Trying to avoid a knee replacement at this time.
