Looks like we're back to 4-4-2, but who plays?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Come one then we've all got an opinion on what happened last Saturday. We've all got players we'd like to see sail down the Tyne never to return and others who we wouldn't possibly drop. Lets see your team selection then.

From Teamtwaddle, don't know where they nicked the quote from though.

The Newcastle manager is likely to make changes for Sunday's visit of Liverpool, which could see him returning to a 4-2-4(surely 4-4-2!!) line up. Nolberto Solano doesn't really defend well enough to play as a wing back while Didier Domi is reluctant to get forward. Robson admitted: "We have only taken four points from our last five Premiership games, so I have to consider changing things." My team is (4-4-2) Given Griffin Goma Hughes Domi Solano Lee Acuna Bassedas Shearer Cordone.

I take you point in an earler thread about Lee's influence in midfield, but we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Good sweepers arn't ten a penny. I'm not saying we should always use that formation, but I don't think we should give up on it totally. Bobby's right to revert in the short term, but I hope we don't see that avenue closed for ever.

I appreciate we should be flexible enough to use the formation but we haven't got the wing backs to play it without seriously hampering our attacking play (?!). We could play it with Griffin instead of Solano but who have we got to creat anything for Shearer, Dyer?

BTW, What's your team selection.

Given
Lee
Goma..Hughes
Barton.........Griffin
Solano...Acuna...Speed
..Shearer...LuaLua/Dyer

Lee can easily move into midfield, and it can revert to 4 at the back.

Ive seriously lost count of the number of quotes Twaddle come up with and arnt found anywhere else- somehow i doubt they have their own roving reporter getting personal interviews.

Team for me wud be 4-4-2

Griffin Goma Hughes Barton

Solano Lee Acuna Glass

Shearer LuaLua

A good solid central midfield with 2 wingers capable of actually getting the ball into the box. Dyer on for Solano early 2nd half. Id like to see Domi on with Glass but i just dont think hes particularly interested in the team doing well.

Are you forgetting Gry Speed? I would play Dyer start any day.

If I were calling the shots, I'd sell both Domi and Marcelino and drop Dyer - not to the bench, but to the Reserves until he demonstrates a hunger to really get involved.
Tough call for Saturday. I suspect Goma won't make it again and that Caldwell will need to play, and I'm not sure Gallagher will be fit. However, injuries aside my team would be:

Given
Barton...Hughes...Goma...Griffin
Solano...Lee...Speed...Glass
AS...Gallagher

I'd send the exact same team out, in the exact same formation. Tell them they're playing for their future in a B&W shirt and see what happens....
