Northwest Airlines Flight Returns Because of Hole in Wing The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Northwest Airlines flight bound Monday for Portland, Ore., returned to Minneapolis after a 1-foot-diameter hole was discovered in its left wing. Flight 375, with 179 passengers aboard, made a normal landing at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, an airline spokesman said.

Mechanics will try to determine what caused the hole in the leading edge of the wing. A preliminary investigation found no evidence of any fire or explosion, he said.

The passengers were put on another plane to finish the trip.
