Poe uses the narrator. In the beginning Poe starts "During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in Autumn of the year,..." This is leading the reader to a feeling of utter hopelessness. Poe uses the narrator by having him describe the setting. The narrator is the key. He sets the mood and tone. If you need me to specify anything just email me... tequilia13@hotmail.com
