I've been watching the proceedings from work all day, and went down there at lunchtime. The crane is truly awesome, the bridge is a thing of grace and beauty. I feel proud that we've got this magnificent, sexy bridge going over the Tyne.

The Mackems might have beaten us, but they've got nothing in that fleapit of a 'city' that compares to the Toon and it's bridges.
