Must be some clever lads (or Lasses) out there

My problem is I got a new computer today and need to transfer my web site and a few other programs off my base computer onto the new lap top.I don't have a usb port on the old one so need to use a serial conection with Windows direct caBLE connection.

OK so I have the cable in place the program set to Host on the old comp and Guest on the new one. It conects ok but then asks for the name of the host, I type in the host name and it can't find it.

I have the same workgroup name and have not mispelled the host name, I also have the hard drives both share enabled. When I reverse the procees setting the new computer as the host and the old one as guest it connects and recognises the host name. I've tried it with another old computer with the same result. New computer fails to recognise the older ones name. Is it something to do with the versions of windows 98 that i am running?

Someone out there in Cyberland must have an idea, please help.

Does your ISP give you access to any techie newsgroups? You might have better luck there.
