Pep-Talk

For the past 30 years I have managed football clubs, good , bad , indifferent, In a really big game such as League Deciders, Cup Finals fierce rivals my teamtalk has never changed, Okay lads its aal doon to who wants it the most, Divent wait for things to happen, mek em happen, and the usual ploy with the ref being in earshot, "Nee arguing with the ref, or you will have me to contend with" (they just luv that one). I can see where Clarky and Pete C are coming from in their reports but I cannot see how things can change, not up to scrapping it out and more importantly not good enough to impose their football skills, telling you something you all know I suppose.

The frustration is what to be done about it? Just watched the postmatch interviews with YBR and Shearer on Sky's site. Heartbreaking. Shearer could barely speak. Bobby even sounded a bit exasperated about our home record this season. Said we've already lost more home games this season than in all of last season after he took over. I've no doubt he'll get it right, it's just going to take longer than probably even he figured. Amusing moment when Bobby suggested he and Al should go out for dinner tonight to commiserate.

"....not up to scrapping it out and more importantly not good enough to impose their football skills..."

Summed up to perfection Buff me old mate.
What to do about it? Stop buying less than top quality players, and get in a couple who can do the business every week.
We lack steel in the team, and we lack a creative midfield player who can create chances - let's start by addressing those problems, and stop filling the squad with second-rate S/Americans who will eventually retard the development of our own talent.
Bobby Robson arrested the decline: however, we've stood still for too long. It's time for the Board to give him the backing he needs to do the job while he has the will and enthusiasm, or give to way to others who will/can.

After a good nights sleep

I think we should sell Dyer.

I'm sure the likes of Leeds would give us a good #8 million. Same goes with Domi PSG #4 million thank you very much. We could use the money to firstly get a decent left wingback. A decent centre back and yes another striker. I know I've changed my opinion in the last 12 hours, but you lads are right Shearer needs a strike partner, and we ned more balance , the left hand side is still too weak . Cordone isn't realy good enough, LuaLua and Ameobi and probably the injured Cort are too young and Gallacher is too old.

As for team formation, I think if we have 3 cetre backs rather than Lee and two others, then they should be OK. I would even try Barton alongside Goma and Hughes. Central defence Acuna , Lee, and either Speed or Bassedas . Solano has got to stay as wingback. OK so he needs to be taught to tackle better , but he's our second best player.

If we are going down the line of getting rid of Dyer.......instead of selling him, can we not go for a straight swap for TAF to partner Al!

I disagree, Rik. Well, not totally about Dyer, as I'm still to be convinced he's as good as everyone reckons, but cashing in on players in any case is not the way. It's easy to talk about using the cash for a 'decent' wingback or CB, but it's not as simple as that. You have to find the right players. They have to be available. Crucially, they have to want to come - and a mid-table team with no immediate prospect of playing in Europe is not much of a proposition to the best players. And when you've got them, they have to settle in and stay fit. Remember, on paper, Andersson looked like a good signing.

I think we've got a pretty decent team at the moment in all but the goalscoring department. Players like Cordone and Lua Lua really oughtn't to be in the frame, but until we have the depth of squad, we have to live with it.
