-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Hi everyone, I should be at SJP today but I have to work. I have no means of listening to the match so I am counting on all of you to keep me up to date. Many thanks.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Goma's not playing!!! Caldwell in and it sounds like Lee is playing sweeper, bad news I think. Domi and Solano playing wing back, Solano versus Kilbane, oh dear!

Hi Garcie - we`ll do our best!! And - bad luck that you have to work - you must be gutted! (:o|

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Thinking about it Garcie, it may be the rugby - but you might get the secondhalf of our match afterwards. But I`m just guessing.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Does it sound to you like Solano is coping deBuilder?

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

George Best is watching the match for Sky Sports 1:

"It really is terrific stuff...the atmosphere is fantastic..."

..and not that it matters today...but Boro are already two down after 15 mins - at home to Leicester.

Sounds like Shearer is taking a bit of a battering! Good job he`s tough!(:o)

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Hello everyone from Brussels. I've just tuned in to the good news. Sounds from your postings like Speed's having a good day - another try just now, and they say on Metro that Caldwell's doing a good job. Could he be the new Bob Moncur?

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Min......they are porobably still in the Strawberry!

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

How long is Poll going to let Thome kick lumps out of Al before he books him

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Thome should be booked for persistent fouling, go on Shearer work him.

Soton beating villa 2-0....two Beattie goals in two minutes

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

For the benefit of Garcie. Metro says Sunderland getting rattled - Rae, Kilbane moaning. Hutchison booked? Not sure with all the crowd noise. referee being pleasingly influenced by the noise too, says Metro.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Rob Lee booked for clattering Kilbane

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

One challenge from Lee and he goes into the book, the Ref's bent! Good defending from Shearer.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

THERE`S ONLY ONE BOBBY ROBSON, ONE BOBBY ROBSON!!!! If that didn`t bring a lump to his throat - I`d be amazed!!!(:o)

Oh-oh - yellow card for Rob Lee! (:o(

Whoah - we were under pressure then! (:o!

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Good save by Given helped by Shearer defending against free kick. Speed booked?

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

booked?

he should be bloody knighted....

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Thome booked wrongly when Makin pulled Al down......typical Poll day out by the sound

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

COME ON BOYS - KEEP THE PRESSURE ON - DON`T LET THEM EVEN GET A TOE IN THE DOOR.

Shearer brought down, again! Somebody got a yellow, but I can`t hear who! (:o)

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Ref was probably asking for Speed's shirt after the match!

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Shearer had a look of quiet, steely determination as he walked off at half-time (Sky Sports show 'live' clips of Premiership teams going on / coming off pitch). A bit different to last time when he was left on the bench, eh? Comment from George Best: "The fans are certainly getting their money's worth!"

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

anyone watching this live on tv?

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

I wish! (:o)

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

You watch what you're doing with that slack hand of your Gal!

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Bassedas has taken the gloves off. Getting down to it. Sounded like a good South American move before Solano to Bassedas to Acuna, but poor final header.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

LuaX2 on and Basa off......agree with the commentator, strange move so soon in the second half.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Black's sweet (and paper) shop? Knew it all too well! Think we're all in need of a quarter of black bullets laced with Brown, a bar of Caramac, treacle toffee....

Five Live should switch to the match by 4.20pm... And Boro now three down at home.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

I really hate this bit DeBuilder - I can`t stand a 1 - 0 lead at this point - we need another goal.

Bassedas of LuaLua on.......... ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!!(:O)

Is that the first or the second time Dyer's touched the ball in this half? No mention for half an hour.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Bringing on Lua-Lua has changed the game in Sunderland's favour. Some fans are leaving which is disappointing.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

I am sooooo depressed - I cannot bear to listen. WE ARE USELESS UP FRONT!!!!! (I am typing this to tempt fate - come on lads, prove me wrong, NOW)

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Can`t think of anything to say.......loads of people must have left before the end, I`ve just watched them leaving the pitch on Sky, and there were big empty spaces in the seats already.

Maybe we just make far to much of this derby - Shearer must be distraught!!!

I`m away to boil my head. (:o(((((

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

No I'm not I'm to fecking angry to sleep. Jesus f@cking christ why can't we just win one fecking big game instead of fecking blowing it completly against a bunch of neandathals like that!!!!!!!!!.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Usual shots of black and white devastation - heads in hands - as seats empty on Final Score. Barry Davies' verdict: "It was a cracker." Perhaps he should have said "sickener".

Anyone bear to watch the highlights on MotD tonight?

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Chuffing waste of space. I'm off as I'm too disappointed to criticise fairly. Changes ruined the game for us. No left hand side, more central midfielders than we need and Warren Barton yet again on a losing side, funny that.

Sunderland's side are better suited to derby football. About time we sorted out the left handside to give Domi some help. Bobby needs to sort out where Dyer is to play or don't play him, it's ruining any formation we out out. Cheers for your contributions today fellow BBS'ers, another trough in the life and times of supporting the TOON. Here's to the next peak.

Listen to the Roker Roar. I didn't think we'd be hearing that at 10 to 5 today. Depressing isn't it.

I certainly won`t be watching match of the day! And I have the joy of going out for dinner in the restaurant in Southampton where the players go to celebrate - somebody tell me they lost!!!(:o(

5 live says fully deserved by Sunland Penalty apart we did not threaten in last 15 after they scored. Medocrity allows results like this I'm afraid - thats three bad home defeats.

Will await match reports - but saw this was coming, especially seeing Sunderland had not won away.

The Cort injury has been unlucky but it is clear that we lack bite up front. Nothing will happen on this front, so Shearer will have to forage up front by himself.

1-0 up at home then going on to get beat is crap.

Hold me hands up. Beaten fair and square. Again. So Aaron'well win coz we are a better team' Hughes, just what happened to allow them to goals wawy from home?

Thanks lads.

Not happy.

Galaxy ask James Beattie if he wants to play for us, Shearer desperately needs a partner.

Shite - they did win!!! 2 - 0. Okay DeBuilder, I`ll swallow my pride and ask him. Oh this stinks doesn`t it!

Speak to you all later - and thanks for the company anyway. (:o(

'Sunderland's style better suited to derby football' You mean they bloody well get stuck in. Pity is Shearer missing that spot kick......

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Down to 8th, level on points with...Sunderland. Charlton now in 7th. Charlton?! Watch the first half on MotD and then switch off.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

FORGET another striker. Robson has invested 9 mill in Cort/Cordone/Lua Lua.....thats our lot

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

De Builder is right......Shearer desperately needs a partner.....Come on Bobby......go for TAF.....you know you want to.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Shearer's partner is injured and Lua lua/Cordone will have to do til he's fit. We can argue til the Cows come home about whether they are good enough/wether we need another lad up front etc but it will make no odds. Bobby will not be buying another striker. End of story

Saw the match on TV. We got beaten for one reason and one reason only. They wanted it more. Simple as that. No excuses.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Got in one, Pete. However, it doesn't make me feel any better.

-- Anonymous, November 18, 2000

Nah, me neither Clarky, me neither.

Why should I be upset?. should be used to this by now, seen it all before and no doubt will see it all again, The reason why I am upset and I cannot say too much not being at the match is how we can lose to a midfield of Hutchinson, Rae,Williams, Kilbane, apart from Hutch they in my opinion - second div journeymen, and the worry is midfield is the area YBR has spent the brass apart from Cort

Buff, This is the 3rd or 4th time this season we've capitulated in midfield - with one or two exceptions, we're as soft as shite - and that in a nutshell is THE main problem, at least as I see it.
The mackems beat us today by roughing us out of it - full stop. As Pete in C correctly identified from the telly - they wanted it more than we did.
I can take being beaten by a superior football team, but when the Magpies bottle it I find it really difficult to swallow.

Chicago reporting in

Screach'n'Syme here. Both gutted. More to follow. Unless we jump from the top of the Sears (no, not you Roz or Yelli) Tower.

Shit - we are gutted.

Clarky and Pete, you've both hit it....they did want it more. The last 3min was an exercise in desperately trying to not give up another goal. :-(
