Johannesburg (Business Day, November 17, 2000) -
Communications technology group Spescom has
disappointed investors with headline earnings a
share of 10,4c, dramatically down from the buoyant
80,4c of last year.

. . .

"We have had a nice track record and this year has
been a major blow," he said.

The company suffered as one of its major customers,
Telkom, cut back on capital expenditure.

Other customers also reined in their budgets after
overspending on the millennium bug computer problem.

"The first six months were absolutely terrible.
Telkom was a culprit and the Y2K effect was really
bad. Yet the second six months were dramatically better,"
said Farah.
