Just for those hoary old rockers who I know inhabit the bbs...The Who were bloody great last night, despite playing rock's own stadium of shite, Wembley Arena, and insisting on turning My Generation into a 10-minute workout instead of a 3-min visceral pop gem.

Ahh! They don`t make music like that anymore!!!!

Watched the MTV music awards (sort of) with Yelli last night. All I can say is `the only good M and M, is a peanut one`! Yes I know that`s not how it`s spelt. Listened to the album twice - second time to give him the benefit of the doubt and hoping that I missed the point first time round. Sorry - but that`s not for me!

Later........saw Slipknot for the first time.....hmmm! Finally I am beginning to feel my age!!!!(:o|

Eureka!!! Just got back from Tescos, and I have had a revalation!!! It was so obvious really, although I couldn`t actually work out the words that Slipknot were singing, I could kind of relate to the anger and frustration they were obviously pouring out. If anyone has their album, could they please check the words, because I am certain they will be about trying to do a big weekly shop in Tescos in New Milton, whilst the local schools are having an inset day, and the supermarket staff are in the process of filling every square inch of floorspace with Christmas crap, whilst removing all essentials like cat litter, frozen yorkshire puddings and Lotus Peanut Cookies!!!!!!! Arghhhh!!!! Fetch me a mask!!!

I`m thinking of setting up my own tribute band....

..... you`ve guessed it........GrannyKnot!!!!(:o)

Q Magazine did a great headline for The Who a few years back. It was about half a page with:

Zing-zing-zing-zing-zing-zing-zing,
Zing-zing-zing-zing-zing-zing-zing,
Ba-NANG!!!!

The missus was having trouble with some 8-legged litle horror the other day so I started singing "Boris the Spider" to be met with a look of blank incomprehension. Poor lass was afflicted by 2 hours of glorious Who classics to fill in the gap in her education: "What do you mean you thought Elton John wrote it??!?!?!?!!! We're getting divorced etc"

Is there a big age gap Softie? (;o)

Only about 3 years. I was just about old enough to sneer at Duran Duran but too young to realise that they were going to seem brilliant compared to the old crap churned out in the charts since then. She was young enough to like Madonna.

My Mum played us the Beatles when we were kids but I didn't break into a grin and start wigging out until she played The Rolling Stones. Been the same ever since whereby I'm so busy listening to great music from years ago that I miss the new stuff worth listening to. Discovered the Stone Roses and The Verve when it was already over. Thank God for AC/DC and Pink Floyd who had the longevity to wait around for me to catch up :-)

Nicola likes her rock music but goes for the shouty sweary stuff and simply doesn't believe that ballads can have any place on an album. Trying to convince her that there has to be a tune behind the noise or it's just bollocks but the closest we come to agreement is that Marilyn Mansun is pretty impressive and that guy is going to be shot by someone from the Bible Belt any day now.

Fair enough - three years can be a lifetime in the music industry. Funnily enough, Marilyn Mansun was another band we were discussing last night - Yelli`s seen them and said they were awesome, and I love their new release. It will be interesting to see what your youngster is listening to by the time he`s in his teens!(:o)

there's a Tesco in FumbleBuck?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2000

Well hello Scratchy! Of course there is, but it is most definately geared towards the pensioners. We also have Sainsburys just down the road in Christchurch, for the more aspirational. But the true `county set` drive to Waitrose in Ringwood, where they do divine nibbly little things for their cocktail parties and everyone shops in green wellies and Barbours and the carpark is full of Landrovers, Range Rovers, Cherokees etc! Soooooooper!(;o)

Sounds remarkably like Dibley, Galaxy - but definitely not Sunderland, where they get 'nibbly bits' for their cock 'n tail parties at a very different kind of shop!!

Oi,softie! You're younger than me..whaddaya mean sneer at Duran duran?!! Then again my friends and I did feel rather geriatric as 20yr olds amongst the teeny-boppers at their shows. Didn't stop us screaming every time Simon LeBon moved, though. ;-))

Generally I was always the same in loving bands that were over by the time I was old enough to learn about them. I think I got into 80's music about the time of Live Aid...and missed quite a bit already. Now I'm turning into an old fart who just doesn't "get" alot of what's spewed out now. Gimme Beatles, Stones and Who any day. :-)
