Teamtalk reckon PAblo Paz is back over here and training with us again - so it looks as though the deal is finally on.
They reckon Tenerife have reduced the transfer fee to £1.5mm rather than consider taking back Superhero Marcelino!
Anyone been to the Riverside and able to to confirm the presence of our potential 5'8" CB?

Clarky , Am I the only one on here who believes that Marthelino came from Tenerife I meam Real Mallorca?

All the papers keep saying that he was from Tenerife but surely it was Mallorca.

If he's good enough for young Bobby he's good enough for me. Hasn't signed a duffer yet. I like the way that if he's remotely unsure he insists on a trial period. If Dalglish and Gullet had used this kind of forethought we'd not be lumbered with the likes of Macy Leanbollocks and Mrs Brady.

Rik it was real mallorca, bought on the strength of one good game, BTW for the golden oldies, last time I saw a good 5`8` CH was a certain Joe Shaw from Sheff Utd who was unlucky not to win a full England cap, his size perhaps?

You're spot on Rik, it WAS Real Mallorca.
Just goes to prove you shouldn't believe anything you read on Teamtalk.

Also spot on Dave. Bobby is a real pro and does his homework on potential talent. As you suggest, over the last couple of years there are quite a few who were bought on the strength of video evidence and otherwise inadequate research - we all know who they are, and they have cost us dear.

This Tenerife thing has been annoying me for nearly a fortnight. It originated in the Ronnie gill, who said that it was ironic that Paz was from Tenerife as that's where Gullit bought Marcelino from. Midas then copied it, the Sunday peaople copied that and today team talk are saying it.

Are their no origional rumour merchants anymore?

Yep - didn't he have a slightaltercation with Denis the Menace? Fingernails at 2 paces if I remember correctly.

Pablo Paz might be good, but do we want more foreigners in our team?

>bought on the strength of video evidence

That's a bit harsh isn't it? I mean, i thought he used the stats from Championship Manager...

The Daily Toon team......but the TAF rumour never got any legs to go with it...shame though, would have been nice to have broken the story.....ah well......still a cance I suppose.

I see Midas have a bit on the Libyian "Tariq".

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2000

I hope this Libyan isn't Gadaffi's son after having changed his name. Read an article a while ago about him having a modicum of talent, and his Dad investing millions in trainers (including Ben Johnson) and facilities to try and help him make a name for himself.

Thinking about it, Gadaffi's nepotism might have, in a sideways fashion, given opportunities to the likes of Tariq who might have benefitted from this all expenses paid coaching and facilities.
