Where are you???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

A point highlighted by the fact that Bobby is conversing with himself on another thread all on his own!!

The contributions to this BBS seem to be ever decreasing. Coming back this afternoon a couple of times and the 'recent answers' has hardly moved.

Biggest game of the season on Saturday and the place is like a morgue. I appreciate there is no point in contributing if you have nothing to say but sooner or later people won't bother even lurking on here because there is never anything new to talk about.

It has been mentioned this week that the BBS is like pub where you pop in to have a chat everynow and then. At the minute I imagine the pub to be some small country establishment with only a couple of occupants and you can hear every tick of the clock and the crackle of the fire, rather than a vibrant meeting place. The Landlord will have to close down if the customers don't turn up.

I may be over-reacting here and if I am please tell me but apart from a decent discussion about the integration of the NUFC Board on here this last week has been like the quiet pub. Someone pops in has a half then goes on.

Rant over.

Can't disagree DB.
Dunx reckons over 2,000 people have password access. I suspect many of these lurk, but it seems to me that many of the old regulars have lost some enthusiasm and are posting less and less frequently - unless our cyber-existence is threatened that is when everyone rallys.
I keep trying, admittedly sporadically, but it's hard work at times - especially evenings & increasingly at weekends.
Maybe we need Gullit back.............on second thoughts, scrub that particular idea!

As this board is hidden away, there are less and less new users coming in. It needs to be opened up somehow.

Please don't mention the pub. My heed still horts from last neet. Argh - never drunk so much brown in a long time. It beats this American pish.

Stu,

what's it like in the US at the moment? must be dead exciting eh?

all we've got it just another football match to atten at the weekend

what are you up to?

-- Anonymous, November 16, 2000

Its always possible that most people are making sure that they have got all their work out of the way (and those stupid little jobs the missus is always going on about) so as to not interfere with the enjoyment of the match on Saturday.

I'm working on Saturday but have already put plenty of stuff into operation so that I can sit and watch the game between 3.00 and 4.45.

:0)

I'll have no TV access so i'll be relying on all you lovely people [plus Mick Martin] to keep me posted of formation, tackles, peanut trails an of course, goals...

You are quite right DeBuilder - it has been very quiet on here lately - and I don`t mean just this week. I suspect a lot of it is work related. Some of the biggest (numerically) posters seem to be pretty tied up with work.

It will pick up again, I`m sure. (:o)

Never been the most prolific poster (except perhaps a brief flurry contributing to Greenspun Place ;-0 ), but have been a bit busy recently to post much at all. The free moments I have are mostly taken catching up with what's been said, rather than contrbuting. Today should be different though, in theory.

Why do I get the feeling that the prospect of increased cyber flatulance should be enough to effectively kill the board off for the day?... :-)

Hi Windy! I must admit, when I was reading the thread about whether or not we should have Russell Cushing on here, the first think that went through my mind was `what the hell would he make of Greenspun Place`!(;o) I keep meaning to print off some of those wonderful threads, just in case we ever lose this site.(:o)

Looking around at all football sites, they are ALL relatively quiet. I honestly think that the apparent inevitability of the league this season doesn't help. Furthermore, there has been little refereeing scandal or players fighting or any of the usual fodder for discussion. From our point of view, I honestly think that Bobby has removed a lot of the stuff we used to talk about - crap managers, past and present, the board, players getting into bother. Apart from the weekly match and other odds and sods, there's not a vast amount to excite huge debate. Last year, losing to the Makems and wondering whether we were unmanageable caused a lot of soul searching. Hopefully, the former won't happen again and the latter cleraly isn't an issue for us under YBR. Who knows, we're the Toon -there'll be a drama soon.

I think you`re right Dougal - no big controversial issues, no brickbats, no huge clangers being dropped, no boardroom battles etc. Touch wood......long may it last! Even the press are being kind to us, though I`m looking forward to seeing us splashed all over the papers on Sunday - for all the right reasons!!!!!(:o)

There's always something to talk about, whether it's Alan Stubbs' testicles or Shearer's comments about the old guard etc.

I think some of the problem is that we all agree with each other too much these days. Softie's comments on Kevin Dyer provoked people into action. As De Builder says, it's like everyone's just popping in for a half (of shandy at that)..

babychamp for me please...oh is that the time..must dash.

If we lose on Saturday, this place will be heaving

If we win on Saturday we'll all be celebrating so it will be dead quiet.

Dougal, in contrast to your feeling that the Premiership has a certain inevitability about it, one of our former favourites reckons this:

"Watson acknowledges this season's Premiership campaign as the most unpredictable since its inception more than eight years ago." Obviously taliking about some of his losses down the bookies...

To be fair, Watto did say this too:

He said: "You've got Man United and Arsenal at the moment who are probably in a class of their own and then three or four teams underneath those. (surely five , ed?) "Below them, I think it's a case of anybody can beat anybody and if we string two or three results together, we can go from 14th to thetop six or eight within three weeks. There are very few teams apart from the top two who are getting any kinds of consistency, so in that respect, we have still got a good chance of doing something."

So I guess the moral is that when you go to the pub you should have at least two pints and make a meaningful contribution to the place, even if you pop in for a swift couple of strong shots!!.

Half pint drinking shandy bellies always ruin things, like when you're in the busiest pub and the fella in front of you orders two bitter shandies and you've been waiting for half an hour to but four pints of strong lager!!

Sorry rambling on now, I've been to Colchester today, didn't meet any Colchester fans to talk to them about Lua-Lua!! Nearly got blown off a roof though on top of a retail park!! Must stop drinking at lunchtimes!

Oh you`re back then - and about time too! I suppose you`ll be off home next!!!(;o)

My God, you`d hate me in the pub then `cos I sometimes have a coffee (much to the utter disgust of my hubbie)! (:o)

Oh you`re back then - and about time too! Spoken like a true BBS mother!

I'm sorry I'm late, but the nice Contractor decided to buy me lunch and I'm not going to hurt his feelings by saying no.

I share yourgood man's feelings about Coffee's in pubs and even Cappa.......Cappu........coffe with chocolate bits! Here for about an hour then off hom quick shower and out of the house before Children in Need gets on TV. (Don't worry I have donated today!)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2000

Oh-oh, I`d forgotten about Children in Need! Great idea, great cause, wonderful charitable results, but boy does it make for tedious viewing!!! That said, I hope this year is the best yet for donations. (:o)

Well they've had this afternoon's money. I suspect they'll get a bit more out of me tonight in the form of some lusty lovely dressed as a schoolgirl, rattling her bucket!
