how do people feel about moving this board?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I'm often frusrated with this message board. I like to use email rather than a web-based interface. I like the way that I can watch the board from my email, but when I want to post a message I have to use a web browser.

How would people feel about moving the board to www.egroups.com, or some such place? egroups allows you to post and read using both browers and mail clients, and also has a 'file area' where board users can upload files. It also offers you the choice of receiving a daily digest of all the board's messages, receiving individual messages, or receiving no email and just using the web browser to read the board.

I've set up a 'marp' board here so you can see what you think if you're not familiar with egroups.

I know some people have suggested that we use the same board software that some of the other retrogames.com sites use, but does that allow people to use email to take part?

I just noticed that another advantage of the egroups.com site is that it allows you to set up votes as well. So - to try it out I set up a poll:

What should we do about the MARP message board?

o Leave it where it is
o Use this egroups.com group
o Use the retrogames.com message board software
o Something else

You can vote by going here. (But I think you need to join the group first).

I think I have told you my feelings on this a while ago. I personally prefer going with the Emulation World boards, although it's probably more convenience for me already having an account, which can be used across all Emulation World boards (Retrogames, Emucamp, Zophar's and so on...). (So I'm lazy, so shoot me) So my vote is for using the Emuworld boards, if you don't mind it here.

I like this board format, the ONLY thing i don't like about it is the time it takes to load the front page, luckily i've got a fast connection now but when i had a modem it was bloody slow. I tried egroups and i kept on getting:

Oops... You are not a member of the group marp.

Skito:

A. You need to subscribe to the group.

B. You may need to register with EGroups in general. There should be a link somewhere to sign-up with Egroups after you tried subscribing.
