Accessories (Leica CL)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I am in search of the following to fit the 40mm f2.0 lens which is standard on the Leica/Leitz Minolta CL.

1. A collapsable rubber lens shade

2. A lens cap

Please let me know if you have either or both of these items for sale, or if you are aware of a source for same.

Thanks. Stan Katz

Try Brooklyn Camera Exchange at 516-678-5333. I bought a hood for the 90mm Rokkor from them and they were the only places I called that took the time to look for a little item like that. B&H sells very odd size caps and may have a generic cap to fit.

The 40/2 Summicron-C lens has a different filter pitch to other Leica lenses. A normal Leica lens that takes E39 filters has a front thread of 39 x 0.5. Unfortunately the 40/2C has a filter thread of 39 x 0.75 which makes finding non-leica accessories difficult. I am sure that a E39 snap-in front lens cap will work fine and, possibly, a generic E39 screw in rubber lens hood might work especially if you can find a cheap one with a plastic mounting thread. The Leica part numbers are: hood, 12518 (also functions as a series 5.5 filter holder; and, cap, 14191 (snaps into collapsed hood). These both show up on eBay.

Cheers

Slightly off-topic, but if you need filters that fit the Summicron-C and the Elmar-C made for the CL, Nikon 39mm filters have the right thread. They're made as back filters for the big tele lenses and are available in a wide range of types, including NC (no change) protection. Can't fit a hood to them, though as they have an extended front ring with no threads - and I use a Schnieder push-on cap with them. They have come in handy!
