Fall of the House of Ussher is a Gothic tale. It is about mental dissipation. The house symbolises the human personality. Roderick symbolizes the intellect, and mental health of the person. Madeline is the senses, or physical health . Poe is trying to say that when one half of you beacomes unballanced you will be destroyed. Roderick can not stand his sences, as he cannot stand Madeline, but one cannot live w/o the other. they both die at the same time and the House is destroyedwithout harmony of self=destruction.
