Resorves v Sheffield Wednesday

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

A cold, clear night at Kingston Park with the attendance of 1,096 swelled by no less than five first team players in the stands! Shearer, Barton, Glass, Cordone and Solano were there along with Bobby Robson, Jack Hixon, Mick Wadsworth etc.

The team:
1. John Karelse
2. Ryan McGuffie
3. Robert Ullathorne
4. Brian Kerr
5. Gary Caldwell (captain, and carrying on the tradition of being the hard man in short sleeves!)
6. Stuart Green
7. Diego Gavilan
8. Pablo Bonvin
9. Shola Ameobi
10. Lomana Lua Lua
11. Pedro Dimas

Nobody I'd heard of in the Sheffield Wednesday team so I won't bother to list them!

We started brightly with 3 corners in the first 8 minutes. But nothing came of them and we then conceded a soft goal. Dimas was on the left, quite a tall lad with some nice touches. I couldn't see much of Bonvin who was shorter. Lua Lua was making a nuisance of himself and scored after half an hour. There were the usual tackles flying in which the ref ignored as usual. I thought the tackle from behind was banned - pity nobody told the ref! All square at half time.

Second half saw some good running and passing but nobody wanted to have a shot! Eventually Lua Lua tucked the ball away after 3 other players had contrived to miss from close range! The game was livened up by some banter with the Sheff Wed coach. He had been shouting at one of the players called 'Chubby' which the crowd picked up on. He then turned to us and said 'YOU tell him - he won't listen to me!' We were dominating the game and Stuart Green scored a third shortly before the end. 3-1 to us and the first home win of the season - let's hope there are plenty more to come.

When did we sign Robert Ullathorne? Missed that one. How did Ameobi look - has he grown?

Ullathorne came in on a loan/trial deal a few weeks back if memory serves.....I don't know that we have actually signed him full time......anyone enlighten

Ameobi grown??? I bliddy hope not - unless it's outwards. He must be 6'14" already!!

I believe Ullathorne is a non-contract player. I read somewhere recently that he is extremely pleased that the Toon are allowing him to get match fit and showcase himself, and hopes to sign a full-time contract with someone soon. He would like to stay with the Toon but that seems unlikely.
BTW, according to The Journal this morning the Sheff Wed Res. goal was an OG by ... Ullathorne.
