Goma doubtful!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This morning's Journal reckons Alain Goma picked up a calf muscle strain towards the end of Saturday's game and is rated very doubtful for the mackem match! This is all we bloody need.
The Journal speculates that BR would be very uncomfortable playing Hughes and Caldwell against Quinn and the Munchkin and could bring someone else in if it looks as though Goma won't make it. However the frontrunner is this Pablo Paz guy - who is all of 5' 8"!
Just hope Marcelino doesn't declare himself fit!!

We don't need this! Hopefully it is the start of effective mind games by Bobby. It won't take long to have Monkey Heed in turmoil.

Well it hasn't taken long for my head to be in turmoil. The thought of Lee/ Hughes or Hughes/Caldwell as first choice centre halves (No offence to Hughes in this equation) doesn't fill me with confidence. Any chance of signing Helder for a one off? He likes to score against em as well

He should have been taken off on Saturday if this is serious.

I have the utmost confidence in both Hughes and Caldwell.

Reports also say nial Quinn is out of the game.

Most of the reports this morning suggest we may move for a new CB if Goma is out. Quinn will be a hard man to beat in the air so whoever plays will be busy. I'd go for Caldwell, he has been at NUFC long enough to know about Sunlung.

Look what facing Barcelona did for Hughes!

It's not nice to see Goma out for Mackem- game, he's in such a good form. But i would use Caldwell and Hughes in the heart of the defense. We don't really have much choice, unless Robson brings in new blood.

Ananova is reporting that Goma, Lee and Shearer will all be fit by Thursday...

That's a bit more reassuring if Shearer and Lee are only harbouring 'knocks' then it'll take something pretty bad to make them miss this match.
