Match Reports?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I`m looking forward to reading some firsthand match reports on the Leicester game. I reckon a draw against them was a fair result against an `on form` team. As I`ve said before, the commentary can sometimes give a false impression. Shearer`s name was hardly mentioned, Domi was given a bit of a slating, whereas Dyer and Acuna seemed to be having great games. Did it look the same from the terraces?

I`ve been sitting here this morning pondering on the season so far. A third of the way in, a reasonable position in the league (though it`s too early for that to mean much), a fantastic manager, and some very promising new players.

I really think there is much for us to look forward to now IF, and this is the crux of the matter, we can maintain a period of stability. Imagine basically the same players, and of course the same manager, at this point next season, with a whole year of playing together under their belts. We would have an incredible mixture of experienced players, enthusiastic young players, and we still have some new players who haven`t even had a chance yet to really shine.

My biggest fear would be if we end the season mid table or worse and the `powers that be` preciptitate us into another period of change and turmoil. I hope they will have enough patience and confidence in Wor Bobby, not to pressure him too much, whatever the outcome this season. I think if anyone can get us to the top, he can, we don`t even know how far we might yet go this season, but if the Board stand firm behind him, I feel confident that by next season we will definately be out there fighting for top honours.

I'm looking forward to stealing someones match report from someone who was there. It sounded like a dull game with an inconsistent ref. The papers are saying that Dyer had an impressive game. Howay someone must have been there.

Galaxy,

As the fabled "Board Hater", I have to say that one thing they can never ever be accused of is of "pressurising", or not fully supporting, any of the Managers they've had since KK replaced Ossie Ardiles.
If anything, I'd argue that they weren't discrimating enough in their unflinching support for TSM, but in particular TDO when it was clear for anyone to see that his regime had gone dramatically awray.

Well, a pretty uneventful kind of day really.

Picked Andy up at 9.30 and headed north, stopped for a bacon butty part way and arrived in Leicester at about 12.00.

Went round in a couple of circles in their one way system and had pulled in to check the town map again when a bloke tapped on the window to tell us how to get to the ground. Wondered how he knew where we were going, but then I suppose two people in B&W shirts in a car is a bit of a give away.

Anyway, we got to the general area and noticed the rugby ground straight ahead, so made for their car park.....(as recommended by Screacher) and as we approached the car park we noticed it was the exit, so we had to go round another one way system to get the entrance. Drove in and immediately got accosted by the attendant, you know the type, brown coat, moustache, one leg longer than the other, limping out of his little box...."nah....game on here today.....can't park here"......but Screacher said we could I implored......"tough" says he, "Screacher was wrong.....you'll have to park in the hospital car park, but it's expensive" oh dear we thought "how much does it cost" he thought for a minute and replied "you here for the football" - shirts obviously not a give away to him - sharp intake of breath......."all afternoon....oooooohhhh......it'll cost you about B#3.00" - bliddy hell, there parts of London where you pay that for half an hour.

So, once again round another one-way system and into the Infirmary car park. Started to rain, get the drill top and jacket on and head for the pub.

First one we find is The Victory.....hey Screacher said we could go in here.....WRONG AGAIN.....home supporters only these days, the away supporters use the Physio and Firkin, but as it is right next door its no problem........the places was busy but not heaving yet, so settled into a good position at the window so we could see the door of The Victory just in case SBA or Dougal put in an appearance, but they didn't.

Been there about an hour when Jay, Kats, Homer, Wonky (and his girlfriend) from the Strawberry board arrive. Have a bit of crack and then onto the match. Match Report Here It pi**ed it down on the way down to the ground and we got drenched, but at least there was a roof over the stand. Found out after the match why it's not a good idea to park near the ground. Got back to the car at about 5.05 and got out of the car park at about 6.05.......

Pretty much uneventful journey back, dropped Andy off at about 7.50, straight round to the kebab shop, quick take away and home for the rest of WWTBAM.

There you go....The Daily Toon On Tour....pretty boring eh!

I think the most striking thing about Saturday was the window on urban blight that attending away matches gives you. Leicester is a pit, inhabited by neanderthals and that football club belongs in the 70s, in terms of fans and the football they serve up. The second thing is, getting a result against such a set of clueless cloggers was probably a better sign of improvement than winning this fixture last year. Last year, they had loads of injuries and were utter shite (ah - "Heskey for Sundland!). This year we faced their first team with nowhere near our first team and ground out a result. Progress! Leicester is still a pit, tho' but.

I wonder if the new England stand in manager will get us playing like Leicester city.

That would be exciting wouldn't it?
