Event report from SLOC event at Babler

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

SLOC hosted an event at Babler today with a short (1.9K) prologue and then a chase start for a 4.5K course. Dave Frie had the fastest time on the prologue 14:54 with me second at 16:02. I only had a small bobble on control. On the 4.5k course I caught dave at the second control. I wasn't running fast, but kept up with him until number 10 after a big uphill he just ran away. Much like the pack at the relays in Pennsylvania when he hit the road junction at the top of the hill he ran off the road in the wrong direction, so I beat him in by about 3 minutes. Eric Buckley was probably 3rd, but I had to leave before anybody else finished. I had another injury in the middle of the course. Running down a hill, my left leg got stuck on a log and as I started to fall forward my right arm hit a tree and I stopped instantly. My upper back was a little wrenched, but it just feels good it isn't my lower back. By the end of the spring season I should be dead. My body beaten to death by 'O' courses.

So far it has been a rough weekend for OKers. Gene's foot made a "pop" when he was running at Wyandotte and Snorkel seems intent to injury everything that can be injured.

I think Snorkel needs to learn to run with less wreckless abandon.

I say I wasn't running hard, but my average heart rate for the chase start 1/2 of the event was 183, which is 95.8% of my maximum. If only I could get in good shape and be able to average 95.8% of my max I'd feel like I was racing again.

My "calling-it-as-I-see-it" observation is that were Snorkel in decent shape, he would be far less likely to be suffering through a seemingly endless stream of injuries. Why aren't his clubmates applying both the carrot and the whip? No way OK comes through in the clinch and wins a US Chumps relay with a Krispy Kremed Snorkel. It just ain't gonna happen. But if Snorkel should ever will and work his way back into shape, then the firepower OK needs just might be there.
