Eight Killed in Seoul Hospital Fire

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- Fire swept through a psychiatric hospital in Seoul early Saturday morning, killing eight people and injuring 25 others, police said.

Most of the victims were believed to be alcoholics and drug addicts under treatment at the hospital in western Seoul, police said.

Firefighters controlled the flames in 40 minutes. The victims were believed to have been suffocated by toxic gas that filled the five-story Kim Kyong-bin Neuropsychiatric Clinic.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

The fire started at the basement of the building. It quickly spread and gutted most of the building.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire.
