Don't play Shearer tomorrow

It's far more important that he plays next week.

"Alan Shearer hasn't trained for two days with a slight hamstring pull"

Where'd you get this from Dougal?

If this is true we're getting a bit thin on the attacking front.

Hah! Remember Derby County a couple of seasons ago? They all went mad and turned into scoring animals. Great game. Speed played a blinder and Aaron Hughes was stonking as right wingback. 4-3 in the end but we have learned to defend better than that thank God. Maybe losing the expectation will free some of them to play with a bit more confidence. Don't forget that Barton only lost those chains he was lugging about when he played down the left. Might be what Dyer needs.

Oh aye - but that was Derby County, not the stingiest defence in the Premiership. We also had Dietmar Snot Hamman.

Apparently, the statistics show we have gained more points when AS hasn't been in the side, so nobody should be unduly worried - apart from me that is!

They also show that he has scored a hefty percentage of our goals whilst Bobby has been in charge, can't remember the figure but it was impressive.

De Builder,

You're not the famous Bob De Builder are you by any chance?

I haven't actually seen these statistics: however, as far as I'm concerned they are the definitive proof of the value of pages of statistics - good @rse wipes!

Shearer may not have rained , but where have the players been traing? I thought that the cricket ground was under six inches of water.

We CAN play without Shearer.

Statistics, such as OPTA scores and the like are certainly open to challenge and debate because they are subjective. RESULTS are not open to challenge - they are what football matches are about - they are stats you cannot ignore, they are the stats that decide the title, relegation and all points in between. Without Shearer we have done OK in the past.

This is not to knock Shearer. He is a great player and I want him fit ASAP. I just don't want the team or the club to revolve around him (or any other individual for that matter). If he has a hamstring problem he should certainly miss Leicester and almost certainly Sunderland as well. IMHO we have loads of options with the quality available at the club. And we were 1-0 up against Sunderland before he came on last season ...

NOT that I'm saying it was his fault that game ran away from us, BUT the fact remains we were ahead with no recognised big target-man up front. There's loads of good players at the club. Let's have some faith in them please - even if we can't manage to muster a song for any of them.
