Keith Gillespie on free transfer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Keith Gillespie has been told he can leave Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer. Souness finally lost patience with his attitude, which represents a significant decline in a promising career.

He can only go down from here so I fully expect Sunlung to sign him.

Mornin` DeBuilder. Am I the only person who used to like Gillespie? I used to love seeing him charging down the wing and putting in great crosses - predictable I know, but pretty quick and effective.(:o)

Galaxy, I think you've gotten him confused with someone who can play football.....I'd hardly call what he did charging down the wing....more like shuffling! and his crossing was woeful.....hmm maybe that's not fair cos I rarely saw him cross!

A bit of a Tony Daley! Exceptional pace but not really the technical ability to really hurt people. Also as soon as Shearer tonked him one (Alledgedly) his days were numbered!

Keith Gillespie is precisely the model I'm desperately hoping YKD doesn't emulate - a full on head-banger!

Yep, I am right - I am the only person who thought he was OK! Maybe it was the novelty of getting to watch whole matches on Sky that was making me see him through rose tinted spectacles, or maybe it was the rest of the team making him look better than he was. I shall bow to your superior knowledge.

As for him being a headcase - well, I missed all that too, but I didn`t know you lot then, the Telegraph was not `great` on that sort of information, and, at the time I had a teenage daughter - need I say more! My mind was perhaps being exercised by matters closer to home!!! Add to that the fact that Peter around that time very nearly lost a leg, then maybe watching football matches really was escapism in it`s truest (but least critical) form.(:o)

I saw him play superbly at SJP once. That was for Man U (reserves) when we beat them 2-0 in the League Cup. Albert scored his first for the lads.

Seem to remember him putting in a couple of decent crosses for Tino v Barcelona.

Galaxy
Are we any nearer seeing you in the Strawberry ?

So near and yet so far Pit Bill!! We had the Liverpool game all lined up in our sights...........`till Pete and I realised that that was the only week we could fit in a visit to his parents in Cornwall before Christmas.

Sometimes being a `grown-up` really sucks!!!!

I will get up there, but it now looks as though it will be after Christmas. I`d love to be up there for New Year, but I can`t see it happening at the minute. I would also love to come up for the Southampton game. Whatever - be assured the news of the Return of the Prodigal Daughter will be heard first on the BBS.(:o)

Remember Barcelona at SJP, syme?

-- Anonymous, November 10, 2000

There's a snippet in the cron that reckons he'd be a good acquisition for any club, including us. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

I do remember Barcelona clarky, watched it from a Bar in St. Marteen. However I do also remember many games when his crossing was crap.

That's also correct syme mate. He did have few decent games when he first joined us, but soon went off the rails.

I went to school with him...he was a few years below me. Played in a park kickabout game with him as he was a friend of a friend. All he used to do was knock the ball past his man and zoom onto it- seemed pretty amazing at the time ;-)

Last saw him about 4 years ago getting chucked out of a nightclub in our hometown of Bangor, N.Ireland- Gillespie "do you know who I am??" bouncer"yes, get the f**k out". Must point out though hes known as a fairly decent bloke.

Don't you just love it when some semi-celebrity tries on the "do you know who I am?" line, and get's it knocked straight back down his/her throat?
