this is an image from a series that is a prelude to a visit to south africa for a semester abroad. after about nine days last spring, i decided that the city and country were too interesting to stay away from. this image is one of my favorites from the trip, and surely my favorite that fits into this forum. the rest of the series is at my web site. take a look. also, if anyone has a few moments, i would love some critical comments about my work in progress. thanks -m

i like it. the colors are wonderful together, and the shapes, although sort of random and eclectic, are interesting. as i sat and looked at the image, i kept thinking that a human figure, in all black, walking from left to right, positioned against the white wall, would add some tension to the scene.

I like those colors a lot, especially the blue and yellow. I'm not completely sure about it as a "people" shot, though I see the person in the window which can make this technically a people shot. But I don't see the "person" in the person, if you know what I mean. I think this is more color/gemometric than people.

Definitely more about shapes and light then people. Still a nice shot.

Did you get out of the car to shoot this or was it done as you were driving by?

i shot this while walking about. provia 100. mamiya c220, 80mm lens. no idea what the exposure was. don't care either.

the slight distortion is from slight curling while being scanned. the actual tranny is just about totally straight.

i guess it does fit into an abstract sort of genre, but i feel like the figure in the scene pulls it back to reality and gives a human touch to the scene. maybe that's just me.
