The Gore camp claims the will of the people because of a national ppular vote win. But it's interesting to note that if the national vote was subject to Florida law, there would be a mandatory recount of that as well, since Gore's leading margin is .0001%, at 99,000 votes per 100 million cast.

Hell there is more verification, more streamlined process in buying a freaking Barbie from etoys.com than in exercising one's civic mandate.

The vote should be counted AT a MINIMUM twice NATIONWIDE. To do so we must have STANDARDIZED ballots. To say they should be electronic friendly is a given.

And who exactly is saying who wins anyhow? CNN? FoxNews? MSNBC? ABC?

Why aren't you Dittoheads outraged by the way Bush is acting on this? Do you condone his behavior? his arrogance? his basic lack of respect for the now HUNDREDS of American citizens who have said their votes may have been compromised? You claim you are the Party of Character, WHERE IS THE BEEF?????????????????????????

I agree completely with your statement that the votes should be counted at least twice at every poll in the country. There should be NO recounts that vary. I've heard excuses that range from "sometimes the cards stick together" to "sometimes the hole doesn't get punched open all the way, and it either sticks open, or sticks closed." As you said, the quality control is better on toys than on an individual's vote.

I've been sick for a few days, so have been laying in bed watching T.V., and some of the stories across the country [in Republican and Democratic districts alike] are enough to anger ANY American IF TRUE. Some pollsters sent people away because they couldn't get to the booth before poll closing time due to long lines. This is a direct violation of voting rules. Some voters learned that they weren't registered, despite their local DMV notifying them that they were. Voting cards were lost, polls were left unattended while pollsters went to dinner, the list is too long to address.

I think the one thing that I learned from this election is that I need to volunteer to work at a poll the next election. In many instances, there weren't enough folks working the polls to ensure the lines moved fast enough to process folks without a three-hour wait. There weren't enough folks to help people who were confused. Other polling places gave folks choices of ballots already partially filled in. WTF? One place had a woman from the Christian Coalition telling folks that a vote for Gore was a vote for the devil. She was also handing out Christian Coalition voting guides [INSIDE the polling place.]

These problems go way beyond Florida, and we don't usually hear about them. It's a wake up call to us all this year.
