Let's move to Oregon style voting

It's evident now that America can wait several days to see the outcome of an election without having fits. Therefore, we should move to an Oregon style voting system, where all ballots are mailed in.

For one, it would have prevented the insanity brought on by the national television media Tuesday night, with their irresponsible and inaccurate Florida projections. (It's important to note that TV had proclaimed Gore the winner of Flroida before all in the panhandle region had a chance to vote. We'll never know how many people gave up after hearing that call).

Really, the main reason we vote the way we do is so that we can find out who won quickly. And yet we've seen the harm in that.

Second, voters would have plenty of time to make their selections, and if they had concerns, could call election officials.

Agreed, that way Future Shock would NOT miss his vote on the yahoo tally column.

And I would not have to stand outside all day in semi-cold weather telling others to write in FS for Pres while puffing on a peace pipe.

Um, but *who* would tell them?

Yeah, mail in votes can sure be convenient-but if this year is any indication I doubt that they guarantee that results can be known "quickly". Two days after the election we still don't know whether Bush or Gore won there!
