I think the current Datavision & Amoisonic realtime VCD/SVCD recorders don't actually record their SVCD at 480 x480 image size. I forgot the exact size but it's smaller.

That the reason I stayed away from purchasing one. I have tested both machines and have disc samples but I can make better quality SVCD made on my computer. It takes quite a bit longer but I'd rather wait for the quality.
