Memories

Having read Terry's comments about the Sunderland match and remembering the feature they used to have in the mag (I don't know if they still do). I thought it would be quite interesting to hear about everyones match experiences. Starting with Leicester. Anybody have any good stories from Leicester games? I would imagine a few of you went to THE Leicester game a few years back. But are ther any other happy or sad stories?

I remember that Leicester game very well indeed ... my brother and i drove up from London ticketless but desperate to be there on an obviously famous day , where we could for the first time in our history go down to the old second division . We got 2 tickets off a dodgy tout for 50 quid each .. one in the Newcastle end along the side of the pitch .. the other in the gods with the Leicester fans . My brother being ten years older and very protective insisted i went in with the Toon fans and he'd run the gauntlet with the Leicester fans who themselves needed to win to go up ( if results went with them ) .... If i remeber rightly we went 1-0 up , and much delirium amongst the Geordies and a few spilled onto the pitch and a smallfight broke out . At half time those housed in the corner of the ground standing up had bottles and all sorts rained on them and there were periodic scuffles as Geordies jumped into the Leicester end and vice versa ... it was very ugly from where i was sat .. but as a young 'un added to the whole match atmosphere as i wasnt directly involved .... well as we all remeber , with abt 2 mins to go Leicester equalised .. Christ it was unbelievable ... the whole of the terraces around the ground spilled onto the pitch and some brave geordies joined in for a ruck .. not me though . Afterwards i learnt that my brother discreetly left the ground at this point , a wise man indeed .. because he said he heard the one thing he did/dint want to hear as he left the ground . Straight after kick off WE scored again ..... the delirium which ill never forget or will be surpassed to this day ( my back is tingling as i write ) , and we all spilled onto the pitch , going potty ... i fell over and was trampled on the gravel track , and as i rose was hit back down witha plastic seat , opening up my face ... only a sensible fella picked me up and manhandled me back in to wor end . My instant reaction was to leave the ground cover my colours , dab me face with me scarf , and run run run back to the car where me brother was stood outside the car , frozen with apnic when he saw me , but after inspection the damage was only skin deep ... the celebration as welistened to five live and we knew we'd stayed up , twinned with the tension of the car getting turned over as we left Leicester was all a bit much . Ive never been back to Leicester since and never wish to . That was my fifth visit and the fith bother ive seen . Nasty place , nasty team , nasty people ... but a thoroughly delicious taste in my mouth when they fell out opf the play offs . I HATE LEICESTER .

I was there, to much to drink beforehand (so bloody nervous about the result) electric atmosphere, 1-0 up with 2 minutes to go, 2-1 final score (I think Steve Walsh scored an o.g. in injury time). abiding memory is ex-Leicester man David 'Ned' Kelly jumping into the toon enclosure on the final whistle to escape the pitch-invading Leicester mob. Probably one of my top three Newcastle-supporting experiences of all time.

Saw us there in the early 80s a couple of times. Not a nice place to be at all, too long a walk back to the train.

Managed to miss a game early March 1982 as I was diagnosed diabetic and stuck in hospital for a couple of days. The lads I would have gone with still went and got jumped on after the game. One got a broken wrist.

Actually, the wierdest Leicester-related thing that has ever happened was last year. It was Christmastime and I left my house to find a trail of green peppers from my front door to the corner of the street.

Hmmm, yes. 2 seasons ago - Saturday 8 May 1999. Nowt to do with the football (we got beat 2-0), but lots of happy memories of what materialised with me and some bloke in the stands. It was around about the time of their second goal, and we decided to turn our attentions away from the terrible performance on the pitch.

Time before last I was home I managed to get in three games spurs away, leicester away and chelsea at home. At leicester we drew 0-0 nothing remarkable best part of the night was singing with the lads. In fact I was standing next to one lad that was amazed that I'd come all the way from chicago to see the lads play.

Sue's little insight ;-) leads me to ask a question i have a feeling noone could possibly answer yes to .. has anyone had a shag at the match , if so where and when .. actually limit that , had a sexual experience , and i divvent mean when number 38 scored at wembley last year .. surely noone has ?

Feeckin hell man, just feckin hell (apologies for the shite language), how the fuck can you lot not mention our 5-4 victory over Leicester about 10 year ago. You know the game where we went 4-2 down with 15 minutes left (whereby half our crowd left in disgust), to miss Quinny & co heroically, come back and win 5-4 in injury time. Missed greatly by half of the whingers who where in their taxis, cars, trains hearing about it on the radio?!

WELL???

I was at the 5-4, to the end, we'd travelled down from Scotland to see Roy Aitken's debut. Funny day

I was at the 2-0 defeat of 99 while over from NZ, thanks to a ticket obtained from Mungo. I remember having a drink with Susie after the match as we happened to run into each other. I always thought it was strange that she was so happy after a 2-0 loss. Howay lass, tell us what you really got up to at the back of the away enclosure!

The best part of the day wasn't the match, but the train trip back. It took me two days to get back to the toon after an unexpected stop off, the highlight of which was the burning of a mackem's shirt.
